Am I the only one that when I search stuff I get the same results? Almost every time I use the search I get the show off (insert tool brand) collection threads.

Sorry, I get excellent results from the search function. Perhaps pilot error?

The closer you can refine the search, the closer the search should be for you. You can also perform a search through Google as many members have talked about before.

So what good is the search function then? :headscrat

I just typed in gas or Gas and searched using both the simple and advanced search and it turns up NOTHING! I search with Google and can find all kinds of threads with gas in the title.

It is not a big deal for guys that know how to use other search tools, but what about the guy that starts a new thread and then gets ridiculed for starting a thread that exists already. He says that he DID search and didn't find what he was looking for. He used the search tool that was available......:wtf:

on most of the "forum" sited I have been on, the "search" function doesn't work on anything with less than 4 characters. just the way they're hard-wired, I guess.
try more words or longer words.

(and there's no reason to berate/ridicule/belittle another member for starting a new thread when one already exists. one can always link to the previously-existing thread in a polite and helpful way.)

This is the format for using Google to search this or any other site. I don't get very good results trying to use the GJ search engine.

"Search terms" site:garagejournal.com (omit the quotes)

Best not to ridicule some one but help them. Mods can always merge topic that are on the same subject.

I agree!

Yes, I have noticed it on other forums too.

Using this method works the best for me :)
