I'm looking at two portable Dewalt miter saw stands, Dwx723 or Dwx724. Basically small (40"-10') and large (5.5'-16'), & both extend.

I'm leaning or favoring the small one (724), but was wanting to know.

*Has had any issues, or situations where the small one was too small?

Planning to use the stand for a remote location MS stand. Then a wood planer stand & belt sander stand in my driveway at home.

I have an older version of the 723. Not much has changed.

It isn't very portable, to say the least. Heavy. No wheels. You end up carrying both the saw and the stand. Also, it takes up a lot of space in storage.

On the plus side, it has a brilliant indexing feature that allows you to set up a cut and make as many identical pieces as you like. That feature is why I like mine. I can index pieces up to about 8'.

I will mention it's more sturdy than it looks like it would be.

If you are a framer or deck builder, I'd say it would be tough to beat the 723. If you just need it for occasional use, you wish for something more portable.

I have a DW705 saw on a 723 stand but I also have a little Hitachi 10" non-slider mounted on a pair of 2x4 slides that sits on top of a Husky wheeled job box and then stores inside. 99.9% of the time, the Hitachi/Husky is what goes with me.

Thanks for the input TB19,
I'm not a framer, n have a Hitachi 12" on a cart in my garage. However I use my old 10" sliding C-Man when I go help friends, etc....and have been putting my planer and belt sander on saw horses in the drive way, for a while...So I was looking at this to save save some time and easy of use....

The 724 is just over 40" long, so I was favoring it over the longer 723, which might not be as easy to store...

Again, the 723 is fantastic and I am pleased with mine. On occasions when I use it, I'm delighted to have it.

The Husky box is this one. It has a pair of dados in the lid of the box. I cut a couple of chunks of 2x4 and lag screwed the saw to them. I also built a couple of work rests using 2x4 chunks with a 4x4 mounted perpendicular. That provides a rest the same height as the miter saw bed.

Here is the miter saw. It is wonderfully light and it fits inside the Husky box with tons of room to spare but you have to set it to 45* for storage.

One other thing about the DeWalt stand is you can get extra rails and tool clamps so you can have multiple tools clamp onto the stand and you can also have an extra pair of rails on your shop cabinet so the saw can simply unclamp from the shop cabinet and clamp onto the portable stand. It's a terrific system, that way. I've never taken advantage of it but I surely would have, if I didn't like this ultra-portable setup I have with the baby Hitachi saw.
