Garage Mahal Build in Brenham Texas (BlueBell Country)

After many years, my dream is becoming a reality. Ground breaking was 9/29/15.

Living on hilly land can be challenging. One of the most level spot on my land for my shop was 5 feet lower on one end of my placement site than the other end. Looking at it by eye you would think a couple of feet difference in the grade. After Plan A & B was not the right move, I went with Plan C which turn out pretty perfect in my case. Plan C consisted of flattening the hilltop.

Five days later after it was done I ended up with pad large enough for my shop and also plenty of room for the future house. Enjoy the photos. I will be adding photos as the build proceed.

Today10/7/15 we will being pouring concrete in the bell bottom piers.

Quick note: My building arrived quicker than expected and is awaiting the slab. Concrete is schedule for next Monday 10/12/15.

The romantic hills of central Umbria, Italy,
Garage Mahal? I think I worked for him. Good boss, pretty hard nosed (I'm good with that), but the curry smell got old after a while. :lol_hitti

Seriously, tho... looks like an awesome location... can't wait to see this one go up! How big is it going to end up being?

More updates.....
10/12 & 10/13 was pour day after it was over it was POOR DAY $$$$$. Total yards of concrete 158yds.

10/29 Erector brings in his equipment and move steel onto lean-to area for easy access due to threatening rain this weekend.

Monday is the launch date for the erection of the building. I feel like a kid waiting for Christmas morning :bounce:

In the meantime I've ordered and received 3 Hunters industrial ceiling fans 96" in diameter. They can be used with 6 blades or 3 blades for maximum performance. I really wanted a "Big *** Fan" for the wow factor, but $4700 for a 12' fan vs. $2000 for 3 Hunters......went with Hunter.

I've purchased a used a 9000lbs Challenger 2 post lift scheduled to be installed on 11/14. Where the lift is being placed I have two 2-1/2'wide x 3'long x 2'deep concrete in the area of the post mounting.

Will be taking photos and updating the progress next week.

For those who don't know BlueBell is the best ice cream ever!

Blue Bell returns to the stores here next Monday.

Looks like it took some "serious" equipment to level that hill. Look forward to following the construction.

Very nice. And that's some good looking dirt too. What's the plans for the inside, and what's the plans in general? How are you going to finish off the inside, and are you going to have some hotrods in there of farm equipment.

BTW...Welcome to Garage Journal. If you would be so kind, could you put Texas into your profile? No need for a city, but it helps to answer questions at times. Not only that, you may also have a neighbor that's on here, although in Texas, he may be 100 miles away  Thank you, and looking forward to seeing some more build pics

Kevin, I'll be housing 7 vehicles, 1911 Ford Model T Touring, 1915 Ford Model T fire Truck, 1951 Ford F1, 1955 T Bird, 1964 DJ3A Willys Jeep, 1970 Subaru Sambar truck and 1972 Buick GSX Tribute Car. I also play with Hit & Miss engines. I've been tinkering and restoring old cars for 40 years and this is my dream shop. I have a lift to be installed, so no more creeper for me to get under a car.
I am not sure what to do about the walls yet, I've seen the interior wall kits from the building manufacturer and it has a nice clean look to it. I thought about plywood and paint it. I an open to any suggestions.

Day 5 & 6 of the Garage Mahal build.

Half of the roof is up and the upright columns for the 20 x 80 lean-to are in place. Wednesday depending on the wind, either the rest of the roofing will go on the main building or if its to windy the lean-to will be erected.

To be continued.......

Okay, after lots of strong wind and some rain causing a delay in putting up insulation and metal panels on the roof. The roof is now completed. Tomorrow the endwall with the exhaust fan should be completed. Then the trim pieces and gutters should be the final items to be installed.

Are you going to live in it when you build your home? What is your hobby? Steam locomotive restoration? Blimps? Oh, I forgot. Everything is bigger in Texas, Pardner.

Bib Overalls,
This is MY mancave or doghouse whatever the occasion is. We have a cabin on the place to stay in while we build our home in the near future. Hobbies are antique and classics cars, old tractors and hit & miss engines. The 40 x 80 may mot be big enough....lol

Looks great, I'm jealous of all that space but then you can never have enough garage space.

Just had some of the new Blue Bell and I'd forgotten how good that stuff is, it makes other ice cream seem like Ice Milk.

I can relate to you, having built a steel building a few years ago myself

Well the erection of the "Garage Mahal" is finally is done. Now it's time to get the power to the building and start running wires. I did get the 9000lbs Challenger lift installed. I will be doing some dirt work and bring in some base for a driveway, it's an ongoing progress that will take some time.

I am interested in your cost also, but mainly for the structural part. I have worked with Meuller (but will not use them for my main build), currently bidding out to Reed's Metals and met with Ben Kyzar from Kyzar steel yesterday. What makes mine expensive is it will be over 35 feet high so I want to talk to everyone. It will not be a 'standard' one story building. :bounce: I had not heard of Schulte but I will look into them.

Dude,
Those aren't just vent fans, those are "industrial grade superturbine fart removers". If a twister comes your way, do you turn those on and send it somewhere else or what? I like 'em!

After many hours of research on interior walls. I have decided to go with the galvalume PBU metal panels. The galvalume has a clear coat on it making it maintenance free. I am pleased with the results.

Thanks Jeff,
I'm going to stay with the height I'm at right now. It stops at the middle purlin and I can use that as a shelf for oil cans and what-nots.
