The day I announced on here we were coming out with a 1/2" mini impact is when I started getting questions about a 3/8". I mentioned if the 1/2" Nano's sales looked promising the 3/8" version (which I already had in my hands) would go into full production.

Thanks in large part to GJ users for driving awareness about our 1/2" Nano and for continued hounding of Charles (who then hounds me) about a 3/8" model - here it is.

We have these in stock now are are moving them out, it may take a week or two to see them where you normally buy your tools.


The 3/8" Nano is the shortest (3.85") most powerful (450ft/lb) and lightest (2.98lbs) mini 3/8" impact on the market. The short profile of 3/8" impact sockets really allow this tool to fit where previously not even considered for impact use.

I want one too. I think this is a great direction for air tools to head as cordless closes in. Everyone argues air is still more compact, so exploit that and get as compact as possible.

450 ft lbs seems like a lot for just about anything 3/8" drive?

We don't sell direct, and the price from retailers will fluctuate as more people carry it and compete - but the retail for the 1828 is unchanged from the 1822 to give you an idea.

I picked up the 1/2" model and noticed it really packs a punch when I use it at 110psi vs the lower recommended psi. Am I hurting it by doing this?

Chris - you and Astro are killing me. I got the 1/2 Nano a few months ago and it is great. Came in very handy on some suspension work I was doing and saved a lot of time. Now you come out with the 3/8's version. And already know I'll be getting it. I hope the wife (who is usually great about my tool purchases by the way) will understand when I tell her that her anniversary present is a 3/8 Nano. :wtf:

We know most people do not use impacts at 90psi, and we do almost all of our testing and comparisons to alike models at pressures we expect people to actually use them. The twin hammer design is pretty conducive to higher pressure beatings, so while yes higher pressures do cause increased stresses (unavoidable), I'd say bang away my friend.

you mean your exact copy of the ir231?


either way, thing looks small, and all the reviews i've seen on the 1/2 inch version seem to say it's good...question...is this the 1/2 inch version with a 3/8 anvil in it?

Ya know.... every time I open one of these topics it costs me more money LOL. This gun is really powerful for its size. can see all kinds of uses for this gun and since I have been happy with my other astro tools looks like I will be adding one of these to my never ending collection.

Can this achieve the same exact working torque as the 1/2? I know most 1/2 and 3/8 paired sets get lower ratings because of anvil size?

It should be at least the working torque of the 1822 and test bench results show on average higher.

I'm sure WoodstockVA's testing/videos will provide some data so you don't have to listen to the manufacturer on torque claims, though.

Hmmm.....we bought 3 different Skidmores.....and all the test bolt assemblies to do testing.....the keyword in that sentence is bought --- out of our own pocket (and they are NOT cheap!).

We = My wife & I.....not a manufacturer.

I think from my torque testing videos, it is very easy to see I do not play favorites & stick to facts.

Thousands of dollars....but there is no other effective, provable, and repeatable way to verify torque ratings.

I'm just guessing woodstockva, in todays time even the president is sold to the highest bidder! I know you are honest with every review of yours! Not bias! You help us the consumers out before dropping big bucks on a tool!
