Husky torque wrench scale out of alignment

I picked up a new 1/2" Husky (Made in USA) torque wrench from Home Depot yesterday to replace my old Craftsman one with the broken handle. It looks like the following:

Anyway, while I was using it I noticed that the adjustment ring doesn't line up to the hash mark on the large increment scale when the ring is set to zero like it does with my old Craftsman torque wrench.

For instance, in the picture below you can barely make out that the ring is set to zero but it's halfway between the marks for 85 and 100 ft/lbs.

Does anyone else have this issue with their Husky torque wrench (or any click-type torque wrench)? The wrench include a QC printout from when it was tested for accuracy before it left the factory.

If you dial it back one turn, does the zero mark not line up with the 85 mark?

It, like a lot of the older Sears is made by what was Danaher, now Apex. They make Gearwrench and KD. I also have the Husky wrench and another of theirs branded ATD. If you just got it and can't swap it for another one, check with Apex or whoever is listed for repairs and calibration, in the instruction booklet. They may have a solution. Isn't it still under warranty? You are correct; that does not look right.

I wonder if you sent it to Apex for warranty repair if you'd get yours back quicker than the 7 months I've been waiting for the 3 I sent in.
Previous time they "only" took 3 months to return my wrench.

No joke...they **** that bad.

Good to know. I will remember that. As my stuff is many years out of warranty , if I ever need repairs I will use one of the fast turn around places I see advertising on line

I've had some that where slightly off.... the only way to know if its problem is to have the wrench calibrated. Or just return it and get another.

Well the problem is Home Depot replaced the USA-made torque wrenches with Chinese models last year so replacements are Chinese. Same deal as with Craftsman tools.

Get a better torque wrench or send it for cal... but that will set you back $50-70. You can often find PI clicker or split beam 1/2" wrenches for sub $150. The last wrench you'll ever need and very high quality.

The last I looked they were Apex, who moved production to Taiwan. While it is depressing, I think they have maintained quality. I read an interview with a group of heads of tool companies. They all had their own on site inspectors at the factory and they all said they could get the quality if you didn't let them pass sub standard stuff out , which they would do if they turned your back. The companies that manufacture there and don't control production get junk. As far as quality goes,Taiwan and China are not the same. Taiwan is now the world's number one source for stationary power tools. The most highly regarded small business and home cabinet saws, SawStop are made there. Delta makes theirs here but it owned By Chang Type of Taiwan.
