Hey guys,

I've been interested and reading threads on here since I saw Jack Olsens (that Porsche is beautiful!) garage build back in 2010. After seeing how many people think (or in my case dream) about there garage builds with such passion I realized I'm not alone!

Quick background on me for anyone who cares.
I am 23 years old living in Lincoln, NE. My wife and I just purchased our first house back in May, This house had no garage! I would've never thought I would've even considered buying a house without a garage but, regardless it has some room for decent sized garage. My Dad and I run a Roofing and Remodeling business that he started back in 92. I'll attach some of our project pictures if anyone is interested.

Onto the garage after working with building and safety trying to figure out exactly what the parameters were to building a structure on my property we got things sorted out.

Here we go on a $8k Budget.
Specs on garage.
15x30'
2x4 walls 10'
2x8 stick framed roof/ceiling.
Loft storage 2x10 on 16" OC
Beam sizing
Ridge Beam Double LVL 1 3/4" x 14"
Ridge Beam set on 6x6 cedar with simpson strong tie connections down to 4"x14" Glulam beam down to triple 2x4 sitng on footing which is 8"x36".
Garage door header is a 3 1/2"x11 7/8" psl.
insulated with standard fiberglass batt insulation.
5/8" Firecode drywall.
Other interior specs I will update as time goes on until then here is my plans and current progress.

I am in no way saying that I "know it all" when it comes to builds like these and would love any feedback that you would give thanks for reading so far!
I love what I do and have a passion for building pretty much anything.

Stefan

Worked on the forms till about 10:30 last night.
Still have to do more bracing today before the truck comes but can't wait to see it done! :shocking:

Well, we got the footings poured and backfilled along with the stem wall block. Not particularly happy about how the footings turned out I wanted to try and do this big of pour myself we typically do carpentry work and very small patio slabs or footings but that is our extent of concrete.
I had the footings blocked about every 16" before we poured and it still got wonky on me.
Advice if i have any to give would be block even more than you think and then block some more and then block some more! :eyecrazy:

Slab is being poured tomorrow and framing package comes thursday evening.

That *****, but you just can't use OSB for form work if you want a nice finished product. It goes straight to hell once it gets wet. Instead of blocking, use 2X on it's side and stake it good.

I realize that now :)

I used 2x4 blocking staked back to the dirt all the way around.
What would you have used instead? As far as cheaper material without having to use metal forms. Like I said our concrete contractor normally does this stuff for us but I of course had to get crazy and try to do it myself.

Well I would have bitten the bullet and used plywood. As much as I hate wasting perfectly good wood, sometimes it's just the cost of doing business.

Framing is coming along. Decided to change the front to a big dormer to enlarge the loft space and head height.
I am getting closer to sheathing on the roof. I had ACL surgery last week so my crew is going to have to take over for me while I can't work.
I'll get some better pictures tomorrow.
Hope you like it for those who are following.

Stefan

I'm 3 weeks out of post op for my knee so hopefully i will be able to get back out there in a couple weeks and hopefully be able to have my electrician do his magic soon. Let know what you think.

Looks good, what do you plan on using the garage for? Is the loft for storage or a hang out area?

The garage will be for working on my motorcycle for now and friends cars we will see what other projects come along as well they always seem to. Before this space i had a two car garage that had about 7 classic and other cars go through it.
944 I did mild work to and sold
