Low Profile Jacks, Snap On FJ200, good bad or ugly?

I saw a bit of discussion on this jack in another thread, I was hoping to get current opinions. My dealer is getting 130 of them and will offer trade in on any jack towards the $499.95 price. Are they worth it or what? I was leaning towards the Milwaukee 4 ton jack, but I thought this may be a good starter jack to replace my old napa 2 ton.

Here is the thread:

http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=295770

I was not looking to spend $500 on a 2 ton, but of course they are telling me that it is overbuilt and will pick much more. It does have Ucups and almost everything is greaseable, but I have no real experience with low profile jacks. I have mostly higher vehicles XC70 and Suburban. My current 2 ton will pick the Suburban fairly well, but it is heavy (2500 4x4 diesel). I was told they will let me try one out if I would like, but I don't know if I should even bother.

Anyone have any real world answers?

Good = You will be the Cool Kid on the Block with a Snap on Labeled Jack, Warranty service if needed will be more seamless.

Bad = Its $500 (see below)

Ugly = Outside of the Fancy frame work, Which im sure adds rigidity to the Jack, Its really a Sunex in disguise.

Had one at last shop. It got used all day everyday on everything from Eco boxes to f550s.

I liked it better than the beast by matco

So not worth the extra money. I guess I am still saving for the Milwaukee.

I hate to say its "Not Worth it", but Snap on has NEVER manufactured any of there Lift Equipment, What they do due is generally have longer warranty plan and speaking from experience take care of there customers. When someone contacts me looking for a Floor Jack, I throw Warranty out the Window, Even on the High End stuff its still only 2-3 years generally, Its the Nature of the Beast as Jacks are Notoriously abused. The Bigger Import players are starting to upgrade the seals used on there jacks, And Snap on has definitely asked for beefier framework to keep things in order for Everyday use.

Good Luck with your Decision.

Great looking jack but not worth that kind of money. It's a chinese made jack that snap on assembles in the US to justify the cost. If you are ok with made in china buy an arcan and save your money.

Our shop just got one. Light, rolls well, quick to lift. Only downside is the price!

Good Jack. Yes it is costly, but it is by far the smoothest jack I have used in the past 40 years. I purchased one because frankly it is hassle free and I really don't want to have to screw with cheaper jacks for the next 20 years. One and done!

I can see the improvements that snap on added, they are definitely nice, but not sure if they are worth double the price. I will say that a three year warranty is nice. I will entertain the trade in offer and see where that goes. I am not opposed to spending some money, the last time I bought a cheap jack I had to return it twice, that was a hassle. Most of the hundred dollar ones seem to be throw away jacks and I would rather get something that will stand up over time. That was my entire thought process with the Milwaukee. As I said before I don't need a low profile jack, but I could see it being useful.

I need a low profile jack for my mustang. my HW rubs when putting it under the car. I saw the same thread and was thinking do I need this? I'll have my 4 post put up within 6 months.....

some how I will think that I will still need a LP jack, just not sure I want to spend the $500 for it. Any idea what your dealer is offering as a trade in?

another thing about it, it lifts I believe to 23 inches. more than most cheaper jacks, I did a lot of research and decided it was the right buy for me

It's an awesome jack. Grease lip on the axle, locknuts instead of circlips on the wheels, and magnets in the pump to grab debris. I'm getting one! Waiting till December for my dealer to get his in.

They came to the shop and I had my F350 dump truck in the bay, it lifted the entire back end of the truck with no issues, my other 2 ton one can only lift one side at a time. I ended up getting it, it moves around so nice and I know that I can count on three years of good use, then because of the "Snap On" labels it still has a resale value. At least I went into it knowing that I am overpaying. :bounce:

I bought one too. Saw my dealer yesterday and he made me an offer I couldn't refuse. :)

What price are you guys seeing on these units?

I have a crappy chinese jack that has a cracked frame that I am scared to use. It sits in the corner. I would certainly trade that one.

My Snap On guy came in the other day with another sales rep. They were towing a trailer full of these things, maybe 30 of them assembled and a few other in boxes. I went out and listened to the reps BS story about he jack. Tells me it's made in the USA. Then he says it's 550.00 but if I buy 2 or more they are 500.00 each. How many do you want? He asks me. I tell I'm none and he couldn't believe it. Say he sold 10 before he got to me at 11am. I told him good luck, it's too much money for a 2 ton jack.

Bump an old thread. Just broke mine the other day. Pin on u-joint for handle broke. Didn't lift in the "cold" (about 10 degrees). Had to use $12.00 bottle jack instead.

Mine has been problem free. Used it on the Excursion with zero issues. Everything else was well within the 2 ton rating.

So far mine has been trouble free, but I am not a professional shop, so it doesn't get used the way most shops would use it. That being said, I have used it on things that are too heavy, to the point of going into bypass and it is still working fine.

I too bought this Snap On FJ200 floor jack. It is a very nice jack. I was able to get a brand new one in the box for $275. The lift and lowering actions are very smooth and effortless. I was not planning to buy a new jack but my old Craftsman did not go high enough to lift my truck. IFor $275, I think it is comparable to Arcan and Hein Werner models.

I guy (a mechanic) listed it on Minneapolis Craigslist for $450/OBO (a brand new one in the box - two boxes one for the floor jack and other for handle) so I offered him $275 and he accepted the offer without a lot of drama. So met him at a police station and paid him in cash. Not too much drama to tell. I was going to buy 2 ton Hein Werner for $240 if I wasn't able to get it for $275-$300. I generally don't offer more than 50% of the listed price on Snap On tools. Did I do okay on the floor jack?
