Since I am installing a new osb ceiling in my shop, I decided to do something about the existing ugly *** hanger brackets on the garage door track. After taking some measurements from track end to nearest truss, I layed out a posterboard pattern mockup to insure proper fit. There was an unused piece of .051 steel sheet laying around so it got elected to the job. Parts were bandsawed out, bent to the proper degree, and welded up at the intersecting corner.

My poor man's tig discussed in this link was used for the job.

Beadblasting, along with a bit of sail blue paint finished up the brackets. I like the new look much better than the old.

Looks strong, most are weak and flop around when the door moves and are not plumb.

That reminds me, I don't know what is worst, Installing a garage door or installing an opener. Way too many directions to read doing both. Lol

Was recently looking at the hangers on my door tracks and thinking, "That looks flimsy, sloppy and worst of all, not symmetrical." It didn't occur to me to build something better. Duh.
Yet another cool idea to add to my to-do list.

Those look nicer than the ones I made out of sq tubing with a plate welded to the side and lagged to the truss chord.

I think that's a fine bracket for that particular situation. Now you just need a plasma cut sheet metal silouette of a firefighter installed in the rectangular open area of the bracket. See what I did? Just made another project for you, Eric.

LOL, when I put it up, I considered drilling some 1" holes down the center of it just to give it a little character.

I am really pleased with my door track hangers as well. I made these two part brackets out of Stainless steel. The top piece was measured and removed. After the sheet was hung the measurement was marked and used a Milwaukee cordless drywall router(roto zip style) to cut the slot guiding off of the 2x4 cross brace above.

Bracket was slid in and bolts reinstalled from above. Very clean looking. View media item 87274

I did something very similar a couple years ago but went through the ceiling with one part and the other bolted to that. I like you find them much nicer than the angle bracing that comes with the doors.

I did think about machining a triangle in the center offset maybe 1” in. However SS machines like **** and I decided against making a pattern and plasma cutting it due to time. Should of had my CNC plasma guy burn some for me.
