Here's my latest man cave, moved in about a year ago. This is my 3rd garage, with the last 2 having had many more modifications (including beautification). Plan to keep this one simple as I am in the early process of building a 34' x 40' detached next to it. So kept upgrades cheap and to a minimum. This particular 3 car garage is 31'w x 23'd w/ 10' ceiling. Last 3 car was 27 x 21 and the few extra feet make a huge difference. Unfortunately, my truck is 23'+ long and doesn't fit, nor my boat at 26'. And no room for an extended project vehicle(s). Certainly not as impressive or detailed as most in this section, but I’m happy to have it.

So far modifications have been:
- Exterior mounted 60g Air compressor, all down hill piping w/drains, hose real
- 2x, 20A GFI outlet circuits
- Extra 4' florescent light over bench (+old ceiling fan)
- Insulated garage doors

I built my own work bench and storage cabinet, then modified them heavily again.

Obligatory dead animals and beer signs..

Wheeled money pits:

Access from house is the laundry room, which doubles as my brewery.

At the back of our 1.25 acre spread is a 15'x35' barn that I have partially commandeered for overflow man storage (and ‘family seasonal items’).
Modification include:
-New window A/C
-window sun shade
- Exhaust fan on a timer
-horse stall fans on timers
-shelving
-Saddle racks & lots of horseshoe hooks
-Endless modifications to horse stalls, gates & fences
- Hay storage weather shades

Human interface devices for 4-legged poop machines.

New garage assistant, although not very helpful.

So once the new shop is complete this garage will be a clean parking area for 2 cars and motorcycles. Future plans are a paint job, flooring of some kind (stain, epoxy or ?) and a bunch of large cabinets on the forward wall, possible climate controlled (cooled).

Looks very nice. I really like that southwestern design.

Here is my "Garage Assistant" and, other than bringing me frisbee's to toss, he's not very helpful either.....

Having a garage assistant that's a puppy forces one to keep the space a little more cleaned up...

Most things the previous owner touched are poor executed, however half-a$$ed can sometime be better than nothing. sometimes. A slab was poured outside the man door of the garage as was going to be an addition to the house including a second master closet and an outdoor accessible bathroom.
Idea was to delete man door (terrible idea). The concrete is nice to have especially to mount the air compressor to, but is not level and actually puddles at the door. And the A/C drain is there so would never dry... so I extended the drain for now. No permits to my knowledge (and assuming not knowing PO) so have to think about future plan for this. Would like to do the 2nd master closet, a roof over the whole thing, and an outdoor sink (not going to freeze in AZ). The good is that the outdoor A/C was moved to the other side of the house (away from master BR) and the 40A service abandoned so I used it for the air compressor. For some reason 2 additional 40A runs were put in when the house was built. One was (poorly) connected to a sub panel so it was easy to add outlet circuits for garage. The other I wired to the hot tub.

Temp sheds will go away when shop is done, and air comp (in the hut on the left) will move into shop. This picture was taken from where the new shop will be.

Upgraded workbench with heavy duty drawers. Makes the space way in the back actually useable. Repurposed the material from a bedframe I had made. Door handle are rod ends from a SBF.

Built a new front gate for my micro-ranch. Had a 12' in a 14' opening, which was going to remove a mirror at some point, as I have to back up the 330' to park my boat and/or camper in the back. Added the family brand to it in 1-7/8 pipe. Had to get creative to cut 60* angles on my Evo chop saw that will only go to 45. Attempted to explain trig I used to calc all the length/angles to my kids but they gave the same blank look I get from my wife....

built an extra long bolt/handle because I am too lazy to get off the horse to get through this gate. The diamond is actually taller than the Z but looks otherwise.

I absolutely love the style of this building. Everything looks so neat and tidy and well organized. The surrounding grounds also look great. This garage you have is very roomy and seems to do very well the way you have everything set up.

Thanks for your posts and it is a very nice place indeed!!

Best Regards

Nice door handles! I'll have to make note of that. Thanks for sharing.

Made some towel racks out of BBC aluminum con rods. Had to bore out the little end to get the 1" tubing to fit. I had installed a sink in my last 2 garages, but not in this one have to get by with just an outdoor facet for now.

Yes my paper towel holder is faster than yours.

:rocker:

Thanks for all the complements.
Getting excited about the new build, got full plans yesterday, waiting for engineering (12' ceilings) then can submit for permits to county. Luckily no HOA/city just county.

Snake! ... I thought you were dead?...:D (Sorry, couldn't resist...)

Nice garage, looks like you're on old horse property in Chandler?
Know the E. Valley well, lived in Mesa and Gold Canyon for 10+ years, still have a little winter place on a golf course at the base of Dinosaur Mountain.

Love the fab work, look forward to seeing more...

Thanks.... Actually found 'newer' horse property in Chandler. As you may know there are many 1970s-1980s 1 or 2 acre lots with small, plain, block homes, no garages. These are the semi-affordable ones. Most anything newer is $$$$$$. Got lucky to find this 1999 build with (mostly) complete horse stalls/fencing/barn but no shop so went for it planning on adding another building. I have worked my tail off on so many small things that most people wouldn't notice now that the aren't a problem. Spent hundreds of hours fixing doors, gates, plumbing, electrical, painting, bricks, gutters, ditches, trees, HVAC and so on...

Cabinets

Forward wall piled with **** isn't my style, and after seeing many nice man caves here on GJ I had to accelerate my plan for cabinets....

So I built a 8'x'8'x2' 2x4 frame and covered with 1/2 MDF. Front legs are anchored into the floor.

Quick paint job..

Movable shelves will support plenty of weight

I have learned that whatever I build I will later modify. This 8' unit can be moved either way on the wall or disassembled without destroying it. Plan to add some more similar cabinets later, next being a 6' wide by 10' tall for lumber/metal/sheet material. Total cost of this was under $200.

Nice work sir! Lucky you to have a three car and a decent size. I'm in a subdivision in San Tan and most garages I've found out here, in AZ, are 19' to 19'6" deep. I got lucky and found one at 23'6". Looked at one in Goodyear that was 27'. Wish I was on acreage. If you ever need a hand let me know. I'm a carpenter by trade.

A member I know from another forum is in Chandler and the city made him stick build his shop and stucco it.

Beer tap coat rack

Upgraded to Perlick taps awhile ago and couldn't give away these rear seal type. They get stuck easy and are basically worthless. So I made a coat rack out of them with some leftover tubing.

For mounting I welded 1/4-20 nuts onto drywall screws, and then a socket head cap screw threads into the nut.

Friend of mine had a early AR-15 and got a collapsible stock for it, so I ended up with the original one. After a few years in a box I figured I'd do something creative with it and made a coat hook/junk hanger out of it. For a mount I just welded a piece of tubing at a slight angle to a fender washer.

For some strange reason the wife wouldn't let me put it up in the house even though she leaves every coat she owns anywhere but hanging in the closet.

Beautification

Been fixing all the ugly aspects of my garage lately. The GJ has ruined my acceptance of how it looks. Even though it won't be my workshop area for to much longer I have decided to bring it up to the next level.

I have filled 100+ holes in the drywall. Judging from the damage, it looks like someone completely lacking patience and/or a stud finder had a very bad day hanging shelves. Touch up paint I have is close enough for now so gave the walls some help including painting all baseboards and door frames. Now from 10 feet it looks OK. I'm in process of painting the ceiling white now. Eventually the walls will be painted a lighter color (s/g off white or existing interior trim color).

I have been shopping floor coatings and am currently looking at using rust bullet. Planning on getting a 5g to do 2 coats on the 750sq ft, and doing it in 2 stages/pieces as I can't just leave all my **** outside for a few days. I have started crack repair and stain removal. My goal isn't a perfect floor, so I an trying to not get to **** about every imperfection, but I am an engineer so I have my doubts on that.

I also added another 4' shop light over the bench inline with the existing one. Since this space will be parking I don't plan to redo all the lighting.

I know that the construction of my new shop will take much longer than I think it should, so these projects in should keep me distracted.

Added a cord reel and shuffled stuff around in this corner. To make room I decided to move the regulator/filter out of the way by shortening the main horizontal air line by 3'. Also had to move to air reel and repositioned the hose end away from the wall for easier access. If only the cord wasn't yellow...

Now that this air system has been installed for a year I am pretty happy with it. I do not get any water out of the drain valve on the drop end and the filter stays dry. The threaded pipe made it easily re-configure. Not sure what I am going to do with it when I move the compressor to the new building, would still be nice to have air in this garage too. This would require going underground, which will fill with water and get limited use.

Finished painting the ceiling. Needed 6 gallons to cover the tan. Area is a little brighter with the white ceiling. I also cleaned all the overhead door hardware. Overall it looks much cleaner and like new. I shuffled a few more things around on the walls. Not happy with the speaker placement, looks fine but sounds crappy, no image/stage with them in the corner. Suprised they are still going I built them 20 years ago.
Getting there...

I moved to AZ in 1998 from Washington state. I have lived in Mesa, Gilbert and Chandler all just a few miles from one another. I prefer sunny and warm over wet and cold! AZ is great for motorcycles, boating and camping.

And so it begins...
Cut out a section of fence and had 3 trees removed to make room for the new building.

We had 30 trees and they are a fair amount of work to clean up after. The cottonwood's are my least favorite, there are now 12 of them left. They were planted in 2004 and are already past their prime and losing major branches often. Over time I plan to remove 4 more of them and replace with something else in a different location.

I like what you did with the old Weld Draglite as an extension cord holder! Any chance you can show how you mounted it? Thanks!

Nice work! Its looking good. I am not a ford guy by any means but I dig the Terminator mustang. Bang for the buck I firmly believe they are about at the top of the food chain. On the bottle to boot. I bet she is mean.

Thanks. It's a fun car. Raw, loud, reliable. Chews through drag radials in 2k miles but they are fun miles.

Cool. Do you like one town more than the others?
Not so much the town itself, there are good/bad areas in all. The newer areas are nicer and have better schools. Chandler/gilbert is mostly new within last 10-15 years. We are south almost to the Res, where there are more horse properties, I like it. 1 mile from the edge of the city, can ride my motorcycle though farm land instead of with all the idiots on their phone.

This is another way if there isn't a stud in the right place. Used 3/4 ply and countersunk a carriage bolt from the back to attach the disc. Behind the disc is a support so the hose hangs nice.

This old air hose was absolutely filthy and almost black. I cleaned it and now its red again... which go me thinking. It's almost too clean like I don't actually do anything with it. The rusty water pump is my door stop/wedge. I collect old rusty stuff when I am out hunting in the desert. It's definitely a one-of-a-kind door stop and works great.
I fabricated my own oxy/ace bottle cart awhile back for a perfect fit for my tanks. I also painted the beat up bottles.

My poor garage has been severely neglected with the shop build going on now for the last 4 months. Last night I took some time to clean and do some maintenance on my fleet of money pits. All the new granite has kept the floors much cleaner than the previous gravel that would stick to the tires. Also the amount of dust is so much less. Not cheap but worth it.
Looking forward to taking this space to the next level, but I don't think I will get too far before the hot weather hits.

Finally took some time to adjust and re-polish the exhaust on the Cobra. The last clutch job was a pain and one of the reasons for building the shop with a lift. Working under the car on the floor ***** and by the end I got lazy re-adjusting the pipes. That was 2 yrs ago...

This car has had a several different exhaust setups. Current are magnaflow magnapaks in Bolra stringer tubing. Got the stinger CB out of a wrecked car on ebay for 1/2 price so I didn't mind cutting them up.
