Been lurking and reading for quite some time, and it's finally my time to start a build thread. Long story short, the biggest I could go without a whole bunch of red tape was 24x26 on my lot. It's going to be 9' tall inside from the top of the concrete floor to the bottom of the truss. 1" double foil back insulation in roof and sides, 16x8 overhead door, 36" 9 lite walk door and 1 window. Farley bare bones as I am paying out of pocket as I go. We did the dirt work ourselves and I'm having a local Amish company build the barn structure. We will be doing the concrete and electrical ourselves. I have some pictures as they started the framing today. I will post more as the project progresses. Plan is to get the floor in pretty quick then I'll slowly work on the rest throughout the winter. 7d6e65e611b4f353516fcc61a297fabb.jpg

Thank you, I posted from my phone, hopefully that makes it easier to read. I went back and hit enter after each one.

I'm been considering building a pole barn close to the house like you did, how close is your building to your house?

Also, if you don't mind me asking, how big is your lot?

Day two progress. Moving right along considering the weather.
My lot is .3 of an acre, I'll have to look the dimensions of the lot up if you want those, can't remember off the top of my head. Due to city ordinances I have to stay 5' off all property lines and 10' off the house. I'm 10'5" from the house and 5'3" from the rear property line [emoji23] got just about all I could get out of them!

looking great.

If it makes you feel better, my setbacks are 25' from the side and 35' from the back.

where are you located? if you add it to your profile, it will show up under your name and can help people with answers to future questions.

I am from Southern Indiana, I'll add that to my profile when I get home, thanks! The floor will have a 1" fall from the rear to the front, with a ledge for the overhead door to sit in. Then the apron will have a steady fall to the current driveway

1" double foil back insulation in roof and side.

So the foam was installed over the girts before steel siding? Was it done the same way over the roof purlins?

Just curious but what's the total going to be with labor once the shell is up?

Yes, the insulation board was applied over the roof purlins then the steel, all joints taped on the outside. Structure cost $8900, floor is going to cost me roughly $2000-$2500, electrical is TBD at this point right now. I should come in under $13,000 once it's all said and done. Plus shelving and benches etc etc of course.

Looking real good, I like the rustic red metal. The 16x8 will be real nice getting that truck in there.

That looks nice.

If you think about it when you are taking pictures, can you get a couple of the house and the garage?

I am trying to see how a pole barn looks right by a brick house. Thanks!

Sure, not a problem. I totally understand as I looked online a lot trying to find examples. The outside should be done tomorrow with doors hung and metal. I'll add more final touches but you'll be able to get the idea. I'll snap some pictures and post them up tomorrow.

Not the best pictures of it with the house, and all the trash was still laying around. But the structure is up and done, very pleased with how it turned out. Time for us to get the floor in, going to be a waiting game as it is still a muddy mess. Hoping to have the floor in within the next 2 weeks. I'll keep the updates coming as we go though.

Small update, been drying the floor since Wednesday in preparation for the concrete. Dirt is now dry enough and got 4 hours of work in on it this afternoon. Drain is in and 2 loads of 53s in, partially spread. Had to call it quits for the night. Plan is to pour this Saturday, my Dad and I are doing all the prep and grading and then my brother in law, Dad and myself will be doing the pour. Slowly but surely, name of the game when you have more time than money [emoji23]0df9e896185d9442253b0eb4434dbdbc.jpg

Another small update. Nothing to major. Floor grading and base rock all done and packed ready for the pour tomorrow morning. Doing 5-6" fiber reinforced slab sloped to the drain in the center. I'll post more tomorrow after the pour!

Well we poured concrete on Saturday, couldn't have asked for better weather, it was in the 70s! We started at 7 and had buggied all the concrete in by 8 and had the final burn in done by 230. Turned out really well. Did the saw cuts yesterday. Now just to finish the cure then seal it up and start the projects!

The floor and pole barn look great. I hope to have something like yours someday. When you pull that truck of yours in there, shoot some pics.

Absolutely will my man, no problem. I understand the taking time, I saved for a bit for this before I started the project. Just takes time and goals, you'll get what you want one day.

Looks great, I wish I could have done my own concrete, that would have saved a lot of coin. But I needed it done before I come home in January.

Thanks for the compliment! I wish we could've done everything ourselves but I needed something fairly quick and my schedule just didn't allow us to build the barn ourselves. But we have done everything else ourselves as well ill finish the rest myself too. Helps to have a Dad that knows a lot of the tricks and skills to get it done as well as we own most the equipment we needed to get it done. Have had a lot of fun working on projects together over the years. This is certainly no exception haha

So do your father and BIL have access to the garage for vehicle work ask ce they helped with concrete and other jobs?

Nice garage and pretty good price.

Keep us updated with more photos and narration as you go along.

Wow, great job getting that up so quick. I know there's a lot yet to go, but to get a roof overhead and a solid floor underfoot so quickly, I'm impressed!

They will have access, but highly unlikely they'll need it as they have much bigger shops of their own  that being said I do some side work and wrenching. I used to pull in the Lucas Oil Pro-League 2.6 diesel class. Don't have the time to anymore but I still enjoy the sport and working on some side jobs. One of my daily drivers dynoed 700HP and 1250TQ on a chassis dyno. I have a 2002 Silverado 2500HD Duramax, 2005 GMC Sierra 2500HD Duramax and my wifes 2013 Jetta TDI so there will still be plenty of wrenching and playing going on in the shop  my Dad and I both have 2015 Kawasaki Teryx SxS's too that we wrench and play with too. I found some pics on my computer of the trucks and some of our equipment. The one of the truck pulling is my old 2.6 puller, the red ext cab is my 700HP daily and the white one is my work truck I use to haul the mowers and equipment around, usually is the tow pig for the camper too.

Well I couldn't wait anymore, had to pull the trucks in and see. Has a little more room than I thought, a little over 5' in length to play with. They won't be in there together very often, but definitely have more room than I thought with both trucks in. Plenty of room for the other things I plan to have inside. Hoping to seal the floor next week so I can start laying it out and storing some stuff in there so my wife can have her spot back in the attached garage [emoji23]
