The bottom rat is Bonney branded, the top is Bethlehem Spark Plug company with a Bonney forged stamp. The middle one is confusing. Exactly the same Bonney patented design, but it appears to have a Herbrand forge mark and is also BSP branded. Anyone have any insight on how Herbrand may have been producing Bonney patented designs in the 20s?? The Bonney rats are coded 1925 and 1924.

Hmm? Maybe BSP had both Bonney and Herbrand do the forging at various times and they did the machining themselves.
Cool ratchets no matter what though.

Well, I suppose that's possible but it doesn't explain why Herbrand could potentially be producing under a Bonney patent. In the 1920s no less. Wouldn't be a question if it were under Triangle who owned both.

Usually tools produced in that scenario would say "manufactured under license" or something along those lines.

twertsy Hi,

I must be getting up there because my eye sight is not what it used to be, any way you could take some more close up shots.

Do you have a copy of an early Herbrand catalog that I could look through in order to find more information on their early ratchets in order to help you out.

twertsy I did a little digging and herbrand according to the AA site did indeed do contract production for customers and some were only stamped with the H-Diamond logo and nothing else.

In my web search Don 'Bus' Haury has in his possession a very early rare Herbrand Catalog (not sure if he still has it) but I will leave you with enough information should you choose to contact him with your tool find from above for further research.

Hope that helps you out maybe just maybe he still has that catalog and he can shed more light on the ratchet in question.
