They are all made (according to some people) by little Chinese elves.. People with Google know that isn't the case with everything.

Bigger sets are still suppose to be US made.. How big, I don't know.. But there's a reason almost all the loose sockets still say MADE IN USA on them, or do you think they had stockpiles of loose sockets next to Sadam's WMDs ? Craftsman pliers are still USA made. Craftsman industrial is also made in the USA.

For those without google -

Sears has never manufactured Craftsman products itself, instead relying on other manufacturers to make the products for them and then apply the Craftsman brand name. Sometimes, the Craftsman branded items include exclusive features or functions that separate them from the manufacturer's own brand or other brands that that manufacturer produces. Other times, Craftsman products are identical to models of other brands with a different name on them. Beginning in 2010, hand tools manufactured for Craftsman by Apex Tool Group such as ratchets, sockets, and wrenches began being produced overseas (mainly in China although some are produced in Taiwan), while tools produced for Craftsman by Western Forge such as adjustable wrenches, screwdrivers, pliers and larger mechanic tool sets remain made in the United States. Sears still has an Industrial line which is sold through various authorized distributors and these tools are US made. They appear identical to their previous non-industrial US made counterparts, save for the "Industrial" name stamped on them. They are manufactured by Apex on the US production lines that made the previous US made product before production switched overseas to Asia. Tool storage has typically been manufactured by Waterloo Industries, while air compressors were manufatctured by DeVilbiss Air Power (part of Dewalt), and formerly by Campbell Hausfeld.

This is something I'd like to expand on over time. The list below is just off the top of my head, is not all inclusive and may be inaccurate. Companies and products listed are indicative of more recent Craftsman.

USA
Danaher - Ratchets, Sockets, Wrenches
Dremel - Rotory Tool
Empire - Combination Squares, Framing Squares, Levels, Speed Squares
Mayhew - Professional Pry Bars
Pratt Read - Screwdrivers
Ullman Devices - Inspection Mirrors, Magnetic Pickup Tools, Picks
Vaughn - Hammers
Western Forge - Chisels, Pliers, Punches, Screwdrivers
Wilde - Gasket Scrapers, Pry Bars

Europe/Asia
Bahco (Sweden) - 12" Professional Hacksaw (Rebranded 325)
Knipex (Germany) - 7" & 10" Adjustable Pliers (Rebranded Cobras)
Mitutoyo (Japan) - 6" Dial Caliper*
Steinel (Germany) - Industrial/Professional Heat Gun (Rebranded HG3002)
Vessel (Japan) - Ball Grip Screwdriver (Rebranded 220 Series)

*This is speculation. Both my father and I own "Sears Craftsman" logo dial calipers marked "Made in Japan". I have seen pictures of older "Crown Top" logo calipers marked the same.

Glad you included Bill in the list, but you forgot Henry and Al. My father Bill worked at Moore's Drop Forging (later purchased by Danaher group) in Springfield Massachusetts from just before WWII until he retired in 1977. Dad was a setup man- he would set up the machines that did final finish machining on the forged sockets (mostly) ratchet handles and so on. The company's other large customer was Ford Motor Co. for whom they made many door hinges and other forged components. Henry lived across the street from us and also worked there, as did Al, who lived in Chicopee but was a friend of my dad.

the good thing about the new china craftsman is that you can tell they were made in china from a block away so you don't have to waste your time looking at them.

then it would say assembled in the USA from imported components/materials

You don't get it. Some Craftsman tool are USA made, some are China made, some are made in parts elsewhere. Craftsman tools are made in multiple countries.
