Another great year of garage sailing is wrapping up and we need your help in deciding which member will host the 2016 season. The poll is for the top 5 posters in the thread with exception to Outlaw and myself since we have already hosted. Let the nominations begin!

And Jake is of to a quick lead!

and FYI the contender's post count as of the moment:

jakemac 308
BlueBomber 270
bagged89s10 160
3baygarage 158
mike_paxton 157

Bagged, 3bay and Mike are close to a dead heat for third leaving myself and Nines out!

This is how we decided who opens it at Midnight New Years. Jeff opened it the first year part way through the year, maddog did it the second year (but has since got himself banned) I did it the third year, and Nines did it this year. the "host" also sets the guidelines that are pretty open and which generally means anything you get from yard garage/estate sale plus Fleamarkets, antique stores, thrifts, C-list, etc, even E-prey... essentially the "used" market, rather than retail/online purchases, (the "show me your new tools" thread is that area)

I didn't vote for myself (not the gentlemanly thing to do), but I won't say who I voted for. :D

I'm not sayin' it was BB, but it was BB...

I also vote outlaw or Jeff moss.

If neither of them then just highest post count in last year's thread

I voted for 3 bay since no one else did, I have no idea what this is all about but if it means the winner gets to decide what posts get deleted or moved where I dont want them and 3 bay wins I hope he remembers me and leaves my posts alone!

Outlaw or Jeff moss...

Thanks guys but I hosted this years, Outlaw hosted last years and Jeff hosted the first one so we are all out of the equation. Only the members listed in this poll are available options for the 5th annual thread.

Paparoach, it was just another thread but this year we all get to crash the host's pad for beer and snacks and since I was the last host, I call couch, the rest of you guys fight for the floor. :lol_hitti

Could the nominees post their campaign slogans? Or...maybe a short campaign statement as to why they should be elected. Maybe answer a few questions...

  • What will you do better to improve this thread?
  • What will you bring to this thread to make it the most visited thread at GJ?
  • What motivation will you bring to make people post more?

Seriously,

If a thread is going to have a "host", then they should do just that...be a good host. Be welcoming to all posters wether they be a new, infrequent poster like myself or a very seasoned poster like our candidates...or "victims", as Outlaw chooses to call them.

The best host I've seen on GJ is Drivesitfar. Whoever wins should visit some of the threadsDrives has started and see what he does. I think he's got it figured out....a good standard.

Drives......send me a PM and I'll give you my paypal acct. info so you can send me a payment.

I'm a fan of the "casual" hosting of the thread. It's one thread on one site on the interwebs.
I'd be good with any of the North East contingent.
I voted Bagged, only because he teased me with a text while with the fam at the aquarium with a pic of the Vari Slo score.

Better start preparing your opening remarks, Jake. I predict you win by a landslide.

In all sincerity, it couldn't happen to a better picker. You find tons of good deals and know a bunch about what you find.

Jake: congrats (I think) and you had my vote even though i didn't see this thread if you wanted the job. you have a great attitude whether you kill it and score great tools or get shut out. so i wish you the best with these peddlers next year and of course hoping you find a few gems for yourself if you have any room.

Nines: well done making it a year day to day week to week with all the cool stuff everybody bought and posted. i don't want to be your mom BTW or compared to her so i'll keep working on you an maybe get an upgrade to OLD MAN or some other handle you might have for me.

KZ: just saw your post, but i didn't win so i guess i won't be sending you that Paypal. :D

thanks for the kudos just the same

OK now that the vote is official, I'll answer the questions. In Red.

  • [*]What will you do better to improve this thread?
Nothing. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

[*]What will you bring to this thread to make it the most visited thread at GJ?
Again nothing. The great thing about the garage sale thread is that it runs itself.
Besides, how could we possibly compete with the vise thread ?

[*]What motivation will you bring to make people post more?

Whips, Loud Rock Music, and Water-boarding ?

I'll be taking the next 24hrs to compose an appropriate first post for the new thread and will post a link here and in the 2015 thread when it goes live.
Thanks to all who voted for me. I'm truly humbled.

Congrats!!!!
We've chatted C'man ratchets many times. :)
With great power comes great responsibility. Use it wisely. Hahahaha.

And I love all of the nominees. I'm just more floored by the power the Garage Sale thead wields. And yes, I helped build the beast. :)

Though the sole intentions of this poll was to single out a vict... er.... Host, this is not a winner/loser thread. I feel everyone that participated in either this and/or the 2015 GS Thread are winners! What a great bunch of guys to be posting with - sharing finds, fun and most of all knowledge.
Thanks for participating and to poor Jake, may the force be with you!

The curse is finally being passed... :rocker:

Another one for Outlaw, but seriously, any of the guys in the running would be great to host the 2016 thread.

Congratulations Jake!

The vice thread is only about one tool. I know GS thread can beat the pants off that one tool thread and you're the man to get it done. I'll do my part to post more of my finds whether it be a "you ****" deal or a "you got screwed" deal.
