Beacon Morris BRT030 Heater Install

Here are a few pics of my garage heater that I have finally finished installing. I have been chipping away at it for almost 2 months. Thankfully it has not been to cold this winter. I installed it on a 45 in the back corner so it would blow across the longest axis of the garage. Also I like to make things difficult on myself!

So far it has been running great. The heater is super quiet! I keep it at about 60 since I am out there for some amount of time most days. When I do go out there for an extended period I turn it up to about 66.

The heater is mounted flush to the ceiling with bolts running into the ceiling to Unistrut which spans the ceiling joists.

One of my goals was to make the vinyl siding penetration as clean looking as possible. I used a vinyl meter base but ended up not liking how the siding terminated to it. I added J Channel around the mounting base and it gave a much more clean look. I then added a 7" trim collar to help finish it off.
I still have a bit of touch up to do but that will have to wait for the weather to warm up.

For venting I used the Saf-T Vent 4" pipe. I ran a 45deg elbow and then a 3' long straight pipe. That got me tucked up nicely to the wall. Per the manual, the separated combustion requires the equivalent length of the vent pipe to be at least 5'. The 45 elbow has an equivelant length of 2.5' (per the manual). That plus the 3' piece put me over the 5' min.
I had a T as the vent pipe termination but didn't like the way it looked. I ended up ordering just a simple screen termination from SDS. I was concerned with the wind blowing directly into it but have not had any issues yet. I can always switch back to the T if it becomes a problem.

One odd thing happened during my install. When I unpacked the concentric vent kit it had the wrong size gaskets. Somehow when the people at Beacon Morris put that kit together gaskets for a 5" kit were put in a 4" box. Once I figured out that I wasn't crazy for not being able to fit the gaskets in their correct place I contacted Beacon Morris and they promptly sent out the correct ones.

Insulation: R18 in the walls (r13+r5), R43 in the ceiling (r13+r30)

The installation looks great. Great documentation on sourcing all the parts. Especially the 7"trim ring that you found on Amazon. I looked high and low on Amazon in the fall of 2014 and could not find anything for that. You definitely paid attention to the detail.

Really nice job!! I have been enjoying mine this winter. I leave it off and garage is well insulated and usually above freezing so it's only 15 or 20 minutes to 50 degrees. Again very nice install and have fun with it!!

my 75k beacon morris says I need to have a minimun of 5ft of vent pipe....is it the same with yours? It doesn't seem like you have 5ft of exhaust pipe..

For my installation of the 30K unit with the concentric vent, I needed an "equivalent" length of 5'.
In the manual for the 30K unit it tells you the "equivalent" length of a 45 deg elbow (2.5') and a 90 deg elbow (5'). So for me I have a 45 deg elbow and then a 3' straight section for an "equivalent" length of 5.5'.
Hope that helps, however things might be different for your much larger 75K unit.

Exactly what Alan said..lol I had to read the istructions more than once. My 75k is set up just like Alan's and there are no problems with condensation and it is amazingly quiet. Make sure to use that little tube of gasket lube that comes with or get some can't remember what it's called but the cat 111 goes together alot easier.
