Greetings all

I have a post going in the 'tools' subsection but haven't gotten an answer there (http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=143435&page=46&highlight=hammer+time, post #903).

Here's the makers mark on the tool:

It's the far right body hammer in this group shot:

Any idea who the maker is? Any thoughts on vintage?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Jon

It looks similar to the 'Lakeside Forge' logo, but I don't see the 'L' inside.

Thanks for weighing-in guys.

Gotta love a place where there not only exists a 23 page thread on hammers, but that it's interesting enough to be worth reading all the way through! Now I can't sleep until I know every last detail about my own, which I had to go dig up as soon as I finished reading the thread...

Cheers,

Jon

It's just a guess, but with that keystone, try searching PA tool makers, body shop tools from PA. Anything that's going to start heading you that way. I seem to remember alot of companies there being proud of the symbol

Gents

I've tried Googling around for "PA Tool Makers", etc, and rapidly get buried.

I searched "Lakeside Forge" and got a fellow out in Arizona who's very active on social media, thereby swamping the search results. I didn't try "Lakeside Forge + PA" yet...

What is the tie-in of a 'keystone' shaped mark and PA? (Native Californian, so please pardon my ignorance.) Maybe that will help me search more effectively.

Again, thank you all for taking the time to help me figure this out!

Cheers,

Jon

The Keystone shape is part of the state shield. It's used on highway markers, police patches, and anything else that is used to identify the state or state pride.

Nice job DuroChrome!

I am only familiar with Disston hand saws (Step dad was a 3rd generation carpenter so he had a saw-box full of Disston 'London 12 Spring' saws...), so it wouldn't have occurred to me that they made metal working tools...

Cheers,

Jon

It is a Keystone brand. I have several of their forged body tools. Good quality, nicely finished with good balance.

Thanks vssjim and Hammer1963!

Seems like Keysco trumps Disston (I couldn't find any other Disston body hammers), so we have the answer.

Thanks to all who weighed in on this. I'll go update my original post in 'General Tools', 'Hammer Time' with the brand.

Cheers,

Jon

Greetings Woody_73!

In hindsight I see I could have been much more effective with my search. I was unaware of your thread, I'll go check it out directly.

On a related note, have you ever done an image search with Google? It's pretty amazing when it works. For something like trademarks I could see it being a monster with line drawings, but probably struggling with photos.

Cheers,

Jon
