No, they are not a professional brand pliers, but it's probably more convenient having something like this than not buying anything due to the expense of a more professional type. I was looking for circle nose pliers for hoses and came across these.

This is the set - $38 for 9 pairs of long reach pliers.

Or is it makes you feel any better you can spend $82 and get the same set here

I bought the Mac deal with those and a bag... For home owner they are fine, but not the quality I'd expect in a top tier mechanics tool.

If you read the reviews (all 5 star) someone mentions they come in their own tool roll.. Not sure why it's not pictured, but the guy said that even the tool roll is nice quality.. I just wanted circle nose pliers, but I'm really thinking of just buying the set, esp since you guys are saying that Mac Tools was also selling them, and they are only about $10 more than a off brand 3 piece circle nose set..

They ship free from Amazon - most orders over $35 do if it ships from them..

I remember coming across this set several months back when looking for good quality long reach pliers. I ultimately purchased the Proto set from eBay.

Good for the hoses in the engine bays of cars. i.e. Radiator hoses
It's a great deal for a set of 9, and probably much better than Harbor Freight (which rusts easily)

As with any tool, handle with care :)

What are the he circle nose pliers used for?

I have all the Snap On long reach styles.

TBH, I don't know where the difference can be seen. I say this because even the Snap on ones have a ton of flex and can't get a kung fu grip.....obviously this is inherent to the design.

I got all my Snappy's for cheap off ebay one by one, but definitely not $38 cheap.

I would definitely suggest getting the $38 set.

(I'm a Snap on fanboy when it's deserved. I just don't think this one is.)

I don't know if they still are, but when I googled for images of "Mac tools long reach plier set", I think two different pages came up with a $99 price tag on the bottom of the pic.. They also came with a "Mac tools" tool bag. Some sets offered a free 8" cutter, some with smaller pliers to create a different set.. Honestly it just looks like they sourced a bunch of different pliers from the same manufacturer and offered them in different arrangements to help entice more buyers..

Something else I'm considering - It's a 3 piece 11" plier set from Sunex for $45.. Comes with 2 circle nose pliers, and diagonal cutter.. Pliers look much more robust, and the circle nose pliers are both slip joints, {so really your getting like 4 different sizes } and they have pipe grips incorporated down the middle of the jaw.. They look very nice for the $$ too - but tough to turn down NINE pliers for under $40..

kc do let us know how the ring nose models work out for you. there was a recent discussion thread about those and there seems to be no "middle of the road" US-made model available - it's either high-end truck brand or Harbor Freight low-end - buddy of mine is looking for a decent set of them.
thanks!

There is a "one" ring nose from Tekton $10-13 shipped, good quality though, feels better in the hand compared to Harbor Freight. However, if you want the three-piece set, look no further, the one on Amazon should do. :)

Got a set for the truck. Thanks

Search xtremepower on amazon. They sell a lot if dirt cheap stuff like hf stuff, but the reviews are ok on this, I wonder how great they will be.

Hey KC,

You should post this item up in the tool truck equivalents thread.

Maybe someone a little more knowledgeable than me can do that.. I don't own either, and really don't feel confident to claim them absolute identicals.. not even sure I'm gonna buy them yet. Maybe someone who ordered them here can post up actual pics for us.. I'm on the fence between these and the sunex I posted.. gearwrench also makes some longer double hinged versions..

I like the idea of the slip joint sunex pairs. Tekton has nice looking long reach bent nose pliers with cross hatching like channellock does...

So it's either I buy the 9 piece set I posted, or the 3 piece sunex and just get a couple regular long reach pliers..

Someone else is probably better to give real reviews on these, whatever I buy won't see a lot of use. It's just a convenience buy for now. Hoping to do a lot of work to my old truck this spring.. (I said that last year too)

I got the three piece gear wrench hose pinch pliers posted last month and they are great. They are long though.

Yea they are 16" long I think.. The ones I saw were that double "X" hinge style, like the crescent long reach needle nose and bent nose pliers that sell in HD for like $25.. Makes sense - both part of apex tool group.

So here's some pics, first the 9 piece Extreme set, then the 3 piece Sunex slip joints, then the 16" gearwrench double X set..

I gotta be honest, I'm leaning toward the Sunex set.. Cause I don't need 5 different variations of the long reach regular pliers.. One needle nose, and one bent nose would do.. And seem like the Sunex gives you 4 sizes of circle nose being slip joints.. Maybe the Sunex set and HD Crescent double X set is better?? ( but more money). If nothing else the Sunex pliers look like the handles won't bend, letting you apply more pressure.. Maybe I'll wait for one of you guys to report back..

I was at a HF today - and I gotta say some the HF pliers and the loose stock long reach needle and bent nose look erriely similar to these... They even have long reach 11" diagonal cutters that look the same.. The grips are shittier, (on the pliers) and it doesn't look like the pliers had much of a polishing, but they look structurally identical. And the handles don't bend much like I was wondering..

Needle and bent nose - http://t.harborfreight.com/2-pc-20-offset-45-angle-long-reach-pliers-61587.html

Diagonals - http://t.harborfreight.com/hand-tools/pliers/11-inch-long-reach-diagonal-cutter-37837.html

The HF, Mac, Sunex, Extreme, and Neiko 11" diagonal cutters all look the same to me.. Maybe the alloy, degree of finishing / polishing, and grips are different - but they sure seem like they came out of the same factory..

If anyone wants another alternative - check out Tekton's long reach set. This is the 4 piece. The workmanship seems much better, and the nose of the pliers are have cross hatching like channel lock uses.. $48 at HD for this set of 4

Tekton's long reach "hose ring" (circle nose) pliers...

Yea I think with one of those 25% coupons they put out once or twice a year the HF would do just fine. And if they break you can exchange them for new ones.
