I am thinking of buying a factory reconditioned milwaukee 1/2 impact is this a good idea? Is the money you save worth it?

I purchased a reconditioned Milwaukee sawzall from CPO. It arrived looking almost like new and it's been working well for a few years. It does have a large engraved marking stating reconditioned tool.

I picked up a recon Milwaukee M12 1/4" drive from CPO, and it's near perfect. A couple of scuffs, but works great and has amazing torque for a small compact driver.

I bought a recon 3/8 impact from cpo. The POS did not work and also looked like ****. The anvil would not spin and whoever owned this impact before must of used the nose cone for a hammer. You would think Milwaukee would replaced the nose cone? Nope, lets just clean it. I will say this, CPO was great with returning it. I did buy a new unit for the same price months later. Those deals are out there.

But from other post in the past, I was probably that 1 guy out of 100 with a problem.

I have always purchased new tools so I can't tell you how good they are. It sounds like pot luck on them as to how worn out they are. Try calling the factory and ask them how they do it and how long they provide warranty.

Most "reconditioned" tools are new returns. Some sleazeball bought it at a big box store, used it on the one project he needed it for, returned it for full credit. It went in a 4'x4' crate in the back room with all the other returns. Once a month or so, when the crate is full, it's shipped out. A subcontractor checks the tools, sometimes re-boxes them and they go out as reconditioned; 99% of the time there was nothing wrong and no actual repair performed.

I have no problem with reman tools. Personally, I think CPO does not discount their reman tools enough.

I picked up a Milwaukee factory reconditioned 1/2" impact wrench 15 years ago. It's still running strong and I use it all the time.

I bought a reconditioned M12 1/2" Hammer drill last year from CPO. Came with a 1.5 amp-hr battery instead of the listed 2.0 (and 4.0 amp-hr battery). Called CPO, and had a new 2.0 battery in a few days. Didn't even ask for the 1.5 amp-hr battery back. As for the tool, it had a few scratches, here and there, but overall looked brand-new. Bought it for a father's day gift last year. It was on sale too at the time. So far, it's still working great for professional use. I'd buy more, though the price may not be different enough to justify the 1 yr warranty over a new tool's 5 year warranty...depends on the sale new-tool sales.

I bought a big 1/2 " Milwaukee Hammer drill in Aug 2014. It has been fine for what i have used it for. Probably mixed 10x more tile mortar than actually drilled holes.

That's what I've seen too. It can be hit/miss, and it seems that the manufacturer is passing along the job of their quality control department to the customer. If it fails right away, you just send it back.

Exactly.

I have no problem with reman tools. Personally, I think CPO does not discount their reman tools enough.

That is the biggest issue I see. If the factory tool comes with a 5 year warranty, and the reman comes with 1 year, I'd rather spend the same amount of money on an ugly tool at a pawn shop with 3 years left on the warranty than a prettier looking reman.
