I've seen pliers like this before, and like a good boy, I tried searching GJ, Google, and the Klein website for an equivalent plier, but to no avail. What's the story with the grips?

Sadly, someone engraved their initials on one side - but at least it wasn't on the grips! Also, you can see these were used to cut live wires as there are a few gouges from arcing.

$1 at a local junk store.

I've got a pair of old Boker linesman with some blue plastic grips that were added. I think the grips may have been sold aftermarket to either insulate the handles, make them more comfortable, or both.
Those Klein linesman are a good buy for $1! Congrats.
There should be a date code on the inside of the handle somewhere. You can use this LINK to translate the date.

Those handles look a lot like the early Craftsman amber handled tools. Did Klein make them for Craftsman, or is it a coincidence?

Those are exactly the same! I bet if you're correct about the Klein/Craftsman connection. Do you know how old you cutters are?

Brian

The dykes are just a random ebay photo, not mine. The adjustable pliers pictured below are mine, and I believe they date to a short run during the 1930s.

Alloy artifacts has this to say:
As far as is known, tools with amber plastic handles were offered only as part of the Craftman "Super Socket Set". Our catalog references for this set are from 1939 and 1942, suggesting that this example is from that period.

There are references to "Klein pattern" linesman's pliers here, so Klein may have been making Craftsman stuff back then.
