First off let me say hello! i have a thread in the intro section where i had a few photos and was told to post more up in here!

let me first say this, this garage was built and used by myself in between 2012 and 2014, so this is kind of a retrospective build! i have since moved away from the house and i now rent it out to a young family!

i purchased my first house in 2011, the house needed a fair bit of renovation and modernisation which all happened over the space for 5 months or so, after which i could then start the important work!

so when i bought the house it had lay empty for almost 2 years and the old woman who lived there prior didnt drive and wasnt overly mobile so the garage was in a state of disrepair... it measured around 16x10 which was just a little too small for my needs anyways!

there was no saving it and there wasnt much use for the wood either so with a pick axe and a crow bar i set about destroying it!

once all the wood from the garage and floor had been cleared away from the site i was left with what looked like a rubbish pile which needed to be extended and raised up! also due to the extra size i had to removed a small amount of hedge row in the back garden... these were deep rooted so instead of trying to hand dig it out the V8 of my 7 series BMW was enlisted as help and with a tow rope and very little effort the hedge was taken care of very quickly!

shuttering started to go up for the concrete base and to give us a rough idea of how much rubble was needed to fill the hole!

with shuttering and backfilling now complete it was looking a little better!

it was now type 1 time to make a solid level top 4 inches below the required height (4 inch thich slab was decided to be enough for my usage!) it was a tight squeeze for the delivery truck

started to spread it out and get it nice and level

a few days later the black plastic sheet went down and the concrete truck arrived on sight to deliver our load! all hands on deck and another tight squeeze for another heavy truck!

and one freshly laid slab! the shuttering was not the best and due to very soft grass it started to bow at parts! however this being a budget build it was not the end of the world!

the slab was given a few days to rest and dry out before the shuttering was removed! this was getting exciting now! and it meant my garage could be ordered!

a very simple plan was given to the local company to build... i think this may have been the biggest single piece they had built but took it on with no problems! they did ask me to shorten it to 18ft as this is the longest single board they could get but i wanted 20ft so there had to be a join in the middle which i was fine with!

very soon after a flatbed arrived at my house with 5 guys at a large ikea looking flat pack...

within 45 minutes (it was raining and the guys didnt want to be outside any longer than they needed to be!) the garage was up and watertight!

a little added security and so i could keep one door shut with the other open

at this point it was very spacious and felt great inside!

it was now time to start filling it! toolbox and racking went in first

EF40DC44-80D0-4E27-9326-05EE59514F15.jpg

then it was time to make a sturdy workbench out of old scrap wood!

C4C4D562-39CD-4101-84C1-282D44AB2D33.jpg

i also built a mezzanine storage level above the doors to keep more of my bigger car parts and old boxes which i stupidly never got a photo off!

and after that it slowly filled up with more junk and tools! i will have more photos i will dig up shortly!

and thats pretty much the story of my first garage! i await the day i can move from my current house to one with an even better garage! just now the house i live in has no garage nor the space for one which really bums me out! not to fret, i have told the other half that a decent garage is joint number 1 priority when we move! thanks for reading (if you've gotten this far!)
