Hello everyone,

First post here. I have a Weaver WA-72A 2 ton jack that is giving me problems.

When I got it it wouldn't jack up at all, I found the ball weight missing, Y in the diagram, the balls are good, and are 1/2" and 5/16" as specified. I called weaver and they said make one out of 1/4" key stock, but they couldn't tell me the exact length, I made it about an inch long. Anyone know what that length is supposed to be? I tapped the small ball with a drift to seat it while I had it apart. The manual states to hold down the jack jacking lever when the saddle is all the way up, then open the pressure release to bleed the jack. I got a geyser out the vent hole. I had filled the jack up as much as possible before that happened. It wouldn't jack up when I got it, now I can jack it up if there is no pressure on it, but I put it under a forklift and it wouldn't even really try to lift it, when I opened the release valve again I got another geyser, and I wasn't holding the jack lever down as before.

Is this enough info to be pointed in the right direction?

Thank you in advance for your help!

The jack should be filled with the saddle in the down position. The jack needs the air space to displace fluid as the piston moves. You overfilled, that is why it is squirting. As for the lack of holding a load, it probably needs new seals. This is a well designed jack, well worth repairing.

OK, Good. It does sound like that ball is not being held down enough and fluid is bypassing. Maybe the rod does need to be a little longer. Sorry I can't of more help. Member HIBALL is the jack guru on this board, hopefully he will chime in soon. He has a lot of experience with these jacks.

In regards to the weight that sits between the upper and lower ball, the Jack will still operate with it removed. I don't know the exact length off hand, but it needs to be short enough to allow the upper ball to fully seat. The sole purpose of the weight (hex) is to seat the lower ball quicker when changing the direction of fluid during the downstroke. I definitely think your issue is a combination of way too much oil and a compromised main ram seal. The 1st clue when dealing with used jacks is Missing components, the Jack didn't eat that valve ball, someone thought they could make some adjustments and magically the Jack would start working again. It's almost always as simple as a failed seal, there are literally hundreds of posts here at GJ where someone wants specific bleeding instructions only to find out later a seal has failed.

B.s. Title. I wanted to see a girl squirt.

Lol, sorry. I'm sure if you google around you can find plenty of that!

Thanks to all who posted. My dad has had this jack for probably 40 years. I am guessing he lost the weight while screwing around with the balls. It is short enough to let the top ball seat. I have a rebuild kit in my hands now, I'll take it apart and go all through it. My feeling is the pressure is leaking into the reservoir somehow, probably as Hiball says because of a blown seal. I was hoping I was gonna get away with just putting the weight in. Guess I'm not that lucky!

Looking at the first picture with the torn cup--that will definitely screw things up. Ditto on the congrats for fixing it.
