Hello,
I have been lurking on here for a while now and meant to post pics and projects in my garage. Now my family and I have bought a new house (with 2 garages) so I thought I would share some pics of it as well as the old one, and some progress of it. I thought my old shop was close to ideal on a 1/4 acre city lot: 30'x30' with 10' ceilings. Over the years made improvements to suit my needs: insulation, heater, 70 amp service/sub panel and 50A receptacles etc. I "completed" some pretty neat projects in the old shop:

Along with the main garage area, the new shop has areas for a bar room and a finished room above the garage which I am still deciding what will go up there. Here are some pics of the new shop/bar/bonus. The cars are not mine.

There is also a room the same size as the "bar" room with a sliding door which I plan to make my machine shop room. All of the dirty dust creating processes will go in here: grinding, cutting, welding etc.

Let me know what you guys think as far as some ways to keep the look of the new garage so it doesn't turn into a clone of my dirty (but very functional) old garage. Also I have included pics of the bar in my old house, feel free to chime in on ideas for the new bar. I was thinking live edge bar top and build another kegerator in this one too.

Well, its been a bit but we closed on the house and are "moved in." Just working on getting set up the way we want. I planned on starting on the epoxy coating the detached garage floor the previous weekend but it was about 100% humidity here in MN and the concrete was sweating pretty badly. So I decided to install this little window unit to dry it out. Was intended to be a temporary thing, but its been so nice in there I may just leave it. Also pictured is the current state of the main shop room which is a catch all for. I plan on coating the machine shop room first and then getting it set up and then doing the main room second.

Quick update: Getting the theater room set up above the garage, still need to decided on audio system. Got the floor of the small back room etched and coated. I went without the speckles, and just left it light grey. This is how the floors are at my work and I really like it that way. Plus it makes finding a dropped nut or bolt much easier.

I picked up an important piece for the "bar room" today, the bar. I was going to build one but this one popped up on craigslist for cheap, and it looks like it will fit pretty well. I may still end up building one in the future. I am thinking it will fit nice under the window next to the exterior door.

I got the bar installed last night, and I think it fits about perfectly. The first pic shows where this room is relative to the main shop area.

I put a bar back in the other day, gonna add another shelf to it I think. Also I have been moving all of my tools and junk to the back room in the garage in preparation for epoxy coating the main shop area. Just waiting on the weather to comply.

I finally got the main shop floor area epoxy coated. What a process! Now I am considering a clear coat, does anyone have any input on this subject? The product I used is the Rustoleum Epoxy Shield from Menards, and they don't sell a clear coat for these types of floors there, but there is one sold at Lowes. Should I put a clear coat over the top?? Below are some pics of the process and the "end" result. The pictures don't really do any justice to how much better the light conditions are with the floor coated.

I finally pulled the buggy into its new home, with less than an inch of clearance on the overhead door. Now I can start arranging tools and benches and start to think about 240v receptacles and compressed air lines. Note: the last pic shows how the windows in the garage door align with the pot lights in the ceiling when the door is open.

Yea, it was a pathetic turnout. Not surprising considering the last 10 months, plus it seemed poorly advertised.

Anyway, awesome garage! I wish I had half that garage space!

Not a lot of updates to report, just moving in cabinets/benches. Still trying to retrieve all of the stuff I stored in various places during the move. I thought I would share a rolling bench I built a few years ago, the casters pivot up to make it a stationary bench when needed.

So it was my original intent to build the bar myself and use live edge slabs for the bar top and lower shelf area. I couldn't pass up the bar I found and I think it fits nice in that room. My friend at work who has a sawmill recently brought me a few red oak slabs which I had inquired about a month or so ago. So I don't plan on using them for a bar top but maybe a mantle over the fireplace in the house and or a shelf or two. I included a picture of the fireplace for reference. Any ideas?

I am working on getting the shop setup, putting benches and cabinets into place. Also finding more permanent homes for most of my stuff. I also added a pic of the front of the house showing the attached garage. It's got a hanging furnace running on NG, so the wife will be happy in the winter.

I'm interested. Just keep the tire pressure low on the mud buggy... don't want an amateur hour door removal...

What I've gathered is that you have a two car attached for daily driver/grocery getters and an original behind the house two (Ish) car garage that is the space for this forum. Is that an accurate assessment?

Just reading this thread for the first time. Nice space! That finished room above the garage is what a friend of mine -- actually, his wife -- refers to as a "sulking room".

Yup, that's correct. The building behind the house has the shop, the bar room, and the room above with the projector.

Has the look on the wife's face (assuming that is your wife) changed since this initial photo.

It is one of those looks my wife got when she figured out "well ****, this is were he will be spending ALL his time".

Nice place you have going on there. I figure with an above garage room and an extra bar room I'd never have a use for a bar but it sure would make a great place to set up my computer stuff and then that home theater wouldn't be complete without a great napping couch, lol!!!

I love the Kevin Schwantz poster. Where did you hang it?

I'm assuming you are talking about this print, for now its hanging in the bar although it might work better in the shop itself, we'll see. I included a few more bar pics below.
