Does anyone else use bags (rather than tool boxes or drawers) to organize their tools? I started using bags (mostly from HF) when I was living in a boarding house and had to keep all of my tools in a truck box in the bed of my truck. The bags were a lot more convenient when shoving them into and dragging them out of the box. Since then, I've found that they're convenient in a number of other ways. They take up less space than tool boxes, are easier to carry around and find a spot for on a shelf, etc. I have my hand tools and some small power tools organized in about a dozen or so bags.

About four or five years ago, I bought some canvas bags with zippers, like the bank deposit bags but just a little smaller. I found them on Ebay and figured they'd be handy for organizing subsets of smaller tools (like Allen wrenches, etc) to keep them together within a larger bag. Well, all but one of those bags quickly disintegrated; the one that didn't has held up very well and I still use it. I have no idea why it was different from the others since they all came from the same place.

Anyway, I'd like to find some durable bags to use to organize small sets of tools. I'm leery about buying any more of the bank bags unless I can figure out how to assure they'll hold up to the abuse. I'd appreciate any suggestions anybody has in this respect. Lets brainstorm it. Ready ... GO!

Thanks wes73. Those look good and are priced decent, but I'm actually looking for something a little smaller, like maybe 6"x8". The idea is find something that will fit into a 12"-15" tool bag with other tools.

When I a decently built looking leather bag at a yard sale, I offer a couple dollars.
A messenger bag keeps my jumper cables from getting entangled, and disc golf bags can be handy too.

Been using tool bags for decades. Home Depot has a red and black Husky bag, with lots of inside and outside pockets, that I use. And Duluth Trading has a line.

I use tool bags when I head to our vacation home or going to work on a project at a friends house or around our property. For the smaller things - like allen wrenches, drill bits, screw driver bits, etc I have found using pencil bags to be a great option. They are super cheap ($1 each) and given that they are only holding light weight items they actually last for a while. They are probably right about 6"x8" too.

Funny, if I go on the road I use cardboard boxes :) usually I reinforce the bottom with another pass of tape! I do have bags for the jumper cables though, those get to be a janky mess without.

My in the trunk of the DD at all times tool bag is an ex-purse of my wife.
She was throwing it out.
But it was Army Green with a leather strap.
Some screw drivers, a 1/4-inch socket set, some open ends, small WD40, and some old wash cloths for rattle control.
I like it because it is non-scratch.
You can bring it indoors and lay it on a kitchen counter with out a worry.
(I found out that is why boat repair guys use cloth tool bags. They don't scratch up those expensive boats like a metal, or even a plastic, box would.)
