I've been trolling the forum for about a month now to plagiarize ideas & believe I have a vision. Flooring, paint, lighting & as little clutter as possible. Oh yeah, and of course to make my neighbors jealous. I'm not a mechanic or woodworker, just want a nice place to park 2 cars, motorcycle (sometimes), a bunch of bikes & lawn equipment. $1,000 budget. The madness begins...

Here are some pics to give you an idea of what I started with...

Curious on your $1k budget, how do you see breaking that up vs storage, paint, floor, etc. I look fed to following your thread.

So the painters finished up the inside of the house yesterday & offered to paint the garage for $150 + $80 for paint. I sped off to HD for 4 gallons of Behr Ultra Interior Satin Dark Ash paint & here are the results. (Should have used matte, but happy with the results.

Not sure; no reasoning really, just sounds like a nice round number. I guess I'll stop working when the money runs out. I just figured $1,000 should be plenty for my application. Most of it will be flooring I would think.

First thing, welcome to gj!

I am jealous of your space already. Curious, what is the area to the right of the exterior door opposite the built in shelf/work bench (looking into garage from driveway)?

Thanks, I was very happy with it as well when we moved in 3 years ago, until I started looking at this forum. That space is a 65sq/ft nook under the stairs. I store all my holiday decorations under there. I really don't need any more space than that.

But on the bright side I think were not in the drought anymore.

Ok, the floors are done, almost. I went with Armorpoxy's Armorclad in Designer Grey with primer, standard top coat & 5# extra flakes.

This is what the primer looks like. Probably got it on a little too thick.

Cost was $0.94 sq/ft for a 3 car 600 sq/ft garage , time 8 hours total.

Issues:
  • I applied the clear coat unevenly & Chris at Armorpoxy said he would send a gallon for free & even paid for shipping, nice!
  • I did have to get more etching acid, $8 at walmart.
  • I mixed the color a lot but the last bay has slight color variations (see picture below).

I'm sure most of these "issues" were user inexperience/error. I'm very happy with the results though. More importantly, my neighbors were extra nosey today.

Oh, here is the piece of **** shelf I built on Sunday, tore it down on Monday. Not a square corner anywhere. So my idea of building a storage shed is out. I went back to the original plan of just hanging everything from the walls.

Just applied the second coat of clear, much less blotchy I think. We'll see in a couple of days though.

Looks good!

Question. Are you able to park two cars on the left bay? I know you have your cabinet and work table but is there enough room to squeeze two cars in?

Thanks.
Yep, my 4Runner, the wife's mustang & my brothers corvette fit easily. The only issue is the coupes have longer doors and ding the walls sometimes.

Floor looks great! I've been eyeing that stuff as well but thinking of not doing the fleck this time. Hunting for a dropped bolt screw was a pain

Thanks, not too difficult really. Just remeber not to leave your extra drill battery on the other side of the garage while you're painting the floors.

You're right about the flake. Each section looked really good without it. I think the next house will be no flake with a bright color (blue) or 100% coverage.

After floors & paint, I still have $250 left in my $1k garage remodel budget, so I was thinking of getting 3 extra 4' lights & placing them parallel to the original ones or removing the original lights (one for each bay) & replacing them with 8'er's. See attached & let me know what you think.

OK, so I finished the lights today; moved the smaller lights to the 3rd bay & got 2 4 bulb fixtures for where we park out cars. Just about doubled the amount of bulbs & went with a 6500k Phillips 2850 lumen available ad HD. The paint & floor looks nicer since they're blue/grey & it's much brighter in there, but I'd probably use 5000k if the garage was a different color. I used MC to connect the original smaller lights together; I'll probably redo the MC with solid pipe. This leaves me with about $100 of my $1000 budget left over. Basebords are probably next.

Great progress, neighbor! Keep us posted.

I definitely recognize the Houston architecture of your home. My best friend and his family live in Copperfield Subdivision off of Jackrabbit / West Rd / F.M. 1960.

Thanks, I will. I was reading an article about how Texas styled homes are growing in popularity across the country.
I wish the lawn still looked that good; no rain & 100* heat for about a month now. Sprinklers can't keep up.
As predicted, I'll probably go over my original budget & add some stuff I've always wanted but could never afford. I hate Home Depot.
