I picked up this Snap On Box on Craigslist today for a whopping $20. Its pretty rough, all of the drawer slides except the bottom one work perfectly. Its definitely rusty in places and seen its better days but maybe something I can bring back to life.

I believe its a KRA58D box, dont know what year.

You have to keep the sticker!

I do really like the sticker, too bad the entire box needs to be refinished. Will I get slaughtered at the stake if I paint it a color other than RED?

Nope, if it truly needs a restoration, permission is granted to change the color. ;)

And that is an awesome sticker! :)

Nice! I recently picked up one of those with bottom cabinet for $250. The name plate will set you back twice what you paid for it if you decide to replace it. Drawers have little clips on the slides that catches detents on side of drawer. If you don't have metal drawer releases that comes with new box, use a pair of hacksaw blades. With drawer about halfway open slide a hacksaw blade in chanel on each side of box. Hold blades in place and slide drawer all the way out. Pretty easy once you do it first time. Good luck with restoration!

I got the drawers and slides out after manhandling it for a couple hours. All but one slide came out with the hack saw blade.

The plan is now:
1. Clean everything
2. Sand/blast everything
3. Repair box (top welded corners are damaged, lock bar guides are damaged, etc
4. Repaint (BRG/Kelly Green/Forest Green or Dark Blue)

5. Have a new key made
6. Re-chrome handle?
7. Refinish Snap-on name plate
8. Build new lock bars.

Let me add an Oklahoma "You ****!" That's the box I've been looking for to complete a 3-piece set. Good luck with the restoration, and please post "after" pictures here.
