Figuring it is time to treat myself. I have been tinkering with Volkswagens for half my life but have always made due with a single garage at my first house or a two car garage at my current home. I have been due for an upgrade for some time and it is finally happening. Just accepted a bid to build the building and received my permit from MoDOT for access off the state highway. I am having a 30x50 shop put up in the field next to my house.

Currently working out of the attached 2 car is horrible.

Here is a shot from the side of my house showing the field that will get the building.

Before and after a few hours. Not where it needs to be but way better than it was.

Looks like you are on the way
Where in Missouri are you located? I have family in the NE and SW parts of the state as well as a brother in Jeff City. God bless.

I live about 30 minutes south of St. Louis in DeSoto MO. I could not be happier with the progress. I just sat in my yard watching all the work being done and drinking beers with a stupid grin on my face.

I cannot wait to have all my cars in one location... My house. Lol

I am so envious. Over the garage and VWs. My first two cars were a 56 VW convertible and a 61 hardtop. We bought the 61 for $100 from a farmer that used it to carry his dogs to the field to hunt. The cylinders were hanging loose and we made it only a couple of miles from where we bought it and it died. Towed to a friend of my fathers that did lawn mower repair on the side and he rebuilt the engine for $50 labor and $100 in parts. It ran like a top for the couple of years I owned it.

I think the time of cheap beetles are comming to an end and I hate it. Ever since shows like American Pickers came on everyone that has an old vw rotting in their field seems to think they have gold in their back yard. Moves the price so high that it scares off anyone that is willing to put in the time to restore and put them back on the road. Which really ***** because I get bored once the car is finished and want to move to the next project.

Here is a shot of my summer months daily driver VW Thing.

Here is a bus that I finished and sold last summer to a fellow in the Netherlands.

I built it in my buddy's shop but since then he has sold that house along with my borrowed workspace.

Cleared some of the wooded area off of the fence so my buddy could get to it with the equipment.

I was stationed in Germany in 1974 and, I think, owned a '67 or '68 Bus like yours.

That think was simple to work on and I remember one time pulling the engine out in the barracks parking lot. If I recall, it was held in by 4 bolts and just slid out.

Wish I still had it.

Cheap VW prices are long gone unless they are a heap. It seems as though prices of some of the less desirable models seems to have softened that past few years. Even the lowly Super beetle went up in price.

The years of cheap vws are for sure gone. Which ***** from or me as someone that wants to continue buying them. I can't afford nice ones at all. I find myself repairing junk that I wouldn't have thought I would ever attempt.

I just started on this 59 that had the torsion cut out forever ago and was used as a chicken coop

There are more VW people on here than I realized. Have had a 73 Beetle for 38 years and have a 73 Super that needs restoring.

Are you counting yourself as one? Seems yours has been sitting for some time now... Wasn't Nick the last one to even touch it? :)

Nah I touched it today. I touch it every day. :D

When you gonna mow your yard. Do you even own a mower?

Edit: I guess you don't have to if you just build stuff on it. lol

I was at Kelly Barracks in Möhringen from 1971 to 1973. Stuttgart was a great place to be assigned. My favorite bar was the Grill Restaurant Haxenwort in Degerloch. Long gone I think.

The place is coming along nicely and I dig your cars although I'm a little biased. Here is my daily driver.
