Hey i was wondering how some of you guys display or store your ratchets? I am talking about you guys like me that have so many ratchets that most of them are for collecting or just looking at because there is no way you can use them all. I have about 20 craftsman usa ratchets and about 50 or more usa ratchets like sk, Williams, proto, esc! I had them all in my tool boxes but now they are taking about 4 drawers at least and i don't have the space in my boxes anymore. I now just have them in a small tool box that don't really show them off. I was thinking about maybe getting a nice display cabinet for them but that might be over the top.

Four drawers full of ratchets? Time to thin out the herd.

I have more ratchets then I ever will need, but have them dispersed across four tool boxes and the socket caddy on the end of my workbench.

Disbursed between a couple of locations in the shop, two boxes in the garage, some in the shed, a couple in the basement, some in the tool bag, some in the project house.

I'm never far from a usable ratchet.

Your toolbox is a display....? 4 drawers of ratchets... Get a bigger toolbox. Seriously, do you use them or just look at them. If you want to display them, then make a display case for them and free up some room in your box.

Buy six dozen larger eye bolts and a couple 8' 2X4s. Fasten the 2X4s horizontal on the wall, and space the eye bolts about 2 or three inches apart.. Use a piece of 3/4" plywood instead if that would work out better... Don't forget to paint it Your favorite tool colors first.

For some strange reason I make up little sets with all the extra sockets, extensions and ratchets and keep them in different places. My father had a bunch of old metal cases that the SK and Armstrong sets used to come in. I keep one in the house, one in the barn, one in my trailer tool box, and one in each truck. Then I have the large 1/2" Snap On sets one in sae one in metric that each has a pear head and a round head. Just in case one breaks. The rest just sit in my "extras drawer."

I forgot to add that each drive size has its own drawer with 7-10 different ratchets in each. I try to keep one of each length/style, but there are a few duplicates.

I thought I was bad with a few duplicates! :scared:

I'm not overflowing with ratchets. I really only have just less than one of each size and style available from SO with a couple of duplicates that where part of a BOGO deal (and one or 2 NLA's that I keep a close eye on!), so 20 / maybe 25 overall. All stored in the huge top drawer with all the sockets sets and extensions.

Home box has just a few.

If you're buying them to collect rather than to use, then I think not displaying them is entirely counter-productive.

Build yourself a nice display cabinet, but make sure that you leave space so you can add onto your collection, rather than building it only for what you have right now.

I do something similar, tho I don't have tons of ratchets. I have multiple kits. Sometimes kits within kits. I have one of the plastic boxes with the clear lid and the compartments inside. People use them for fishing lure or scores and bolts. I put foam in the compartments, then knifed in cutouts for 1/4" sockets, a few ratchets, extensions, mini screwdrivers etc. I use that kit all the time for interior work.

I Made this from HF foam fatigue mat. Each pkg has enough to do 2 drawers. Kinda redneck but for $9.99 I'll take it.

I don't have a million ratchets. Back in the day I used to only have one of each drive size. Now I have 2 of each drive.
My 1/4" ratchets I toss in a bin with other 1/4 accessories.

And then my 2 3/8" ratchets and 2 1/2" ratchets I kinda just lay in the front of the drawer. I made sure to straighten them out for the pic lol

I had a big collection but thinned it way out to just the ratchets that I now use. Mostly....

What a waste of space. No? Look at all the space that could be filled with extensions and sockets. I mean, no offense. If it works for you great, but space is a very valuable, non existent thing in my "boxes." What brand are those ratchets?

My solution may not be ideal, but you gotta do what you gotta do. I keep a few of each drive size in the drawers, and the rest get tossed (stored) in hand boxes.

Here are most of my ratchets. Last weekend i finally took out all the duplicates and the ones i wouldn't use and put them in the red hand box. I also have at least 20 more in socket sets as well. I just don't like seeing them put away in the hand box. I like showing them off and looking at them every day. I just don't have the space in my main boxes anymore to keep them there.

I'd build a custom recessed cabinet(s) that fit between the studs in the wall of my barn / garage / shop. Show 'em off!

I store mine in a drawer. It seems like the easiest way for me to find the one I'm looking for. Pictured is my Craftsman tear drop collection spanning approximately 1956 to 1993.
