Putting a handle on steel rod?

So I'm wondering in general if there's something like a file handle (not tapered though) for round rod. Between enlarging drive handles, and replacing one on a torque wrench, I'm not finding much with a general search (foosball grips are about it). Looking for a 1/2" (13mm) inner diameter and 3.25 inch inner length at the moment, which is at least snug on there.

Well maybe foosball handles are where it's at, just found wooden and aluminum ones too (oh, looks like the rods can be either 1/2 or 5/8", and only rubber ones are coming up for the 1/2 inch).

Thanks, but are the threads that long? I mean even if I tried to thread the end, would the handle be threaded inside for a few inches... I kind of doubt that. The one for the torque wrench needs to be retrofitted flush (so I like the idea, but most ideas I like don't happen to fit what I'm liking them for).

I was also thinking of a chuck type handle (large/deep needle vise or something), didn't find one though.

I'm just more into retrofitting than fabrication where possible, so I'm going to try the plasticky/rubberish type foos-grip (13mm ID x 10cm length over all). About $1.25 per piece, and I don't think this kind smells horrible, like some of the softer China rubber, or haven't encountered it with the stiffer material (worth a try, sporty even).

Other suggestions welcome (could be better, well some of the larger ID ones are fancier).:p

A set screw might not work so good though.

Oh goody, the foosball handle's a perfect fit (and is odorless... I always smell tools with non metallic handles now, but that was special order). Ended up with seven extras too! What to do... anything with a 1/2" shank for those (yeah that's pretty common).

Tested it today. I'd put another one on their 1/4" flex handle (which had a short knurled 1/2" shank, so this covers more of the chrome on that). Used it to remove long wood screws from a fence with limited range of motion, cranking the handle both sideways and as a spinner. The foosball grip stayed in place, and compared to a smaller diameter handle I'd tried to do the same thing with, the little one couldn't be spun to loosen a tight screw, so a larger grip definitely improves the torque on these.

You know, foosball has been discussed here before (I looked it up), only no one saw the utility of it. Now you see... :thefinger

Wait, here's another one :fawk:

foospinner.png

So I was looking at this other 250mm spinner handle (somewhere in the UK... too far away), and then tried friction fitting a 1/4" extension in one of my extra foosball handles. It worked, I just had to wrap a little electrical tape around the bottom, and a lot around the top, then lean on it pretty hard to push the part all the way down in there, and it feels solid now. Pretty simple, I'd only glue it if the extension spun internally at some point (though the tape reformed itself into a square shape at the top, so maybe not).

Total length is around 9" (230mm) there, so I might have to look for some longer extensions to meet those UK or euro specs (could be close enough, there's an 8" Felo from Germany I think... yeah that sounds funny somehow)!

This seems better than extending a shorter spinner drive externally, as those wobble at the connection, and that's kind of clunky with the screwdriver sockets anyway. Longer hex bit drivers are much easier to find here. Another imaginary problem solved then.
