I've used Fast Orange w pumice for years. The pumice is key. Some people swear Fast Orange doesn't work, my years of experience disagree. And when people say they hate it, they never follow up w if it has pumice or not (used to be you could buy it either way - not sure now as I never look for the other stuff).

Also 10 years ago Castrol sold a waterless hand cleaner. It wasn't half bad, fantastic for 'wheeling. I think it's been discontinued- too bad IMO

I prefer Lava. Seems to be the best for the price, and a bar lasts forever.

Fast Orange works fine, but it goes pretty fast, and the abrasives in it always dry out my hands really bad.

Good old dish soap will do a nice job too.

As for dirt under the nails, clip them so dirt doesn't get under them in the first place.

Goop can be used without water. I was never that impressed with it though.

I've used Permatex Fast Orange for many years and it works quick and really cleans. I have Lava and it doesn't cut grease, same for Goop. Fast Orange used to come with a fingernail brush but no longer includes it unless they have a promotion going. I've kept and use that brush with Fast Orange to clean underneath fingernails.

Dawn, Tide, Gojo, and Irish spring are what we use at the shop,
depening of the dirt type and level of filth...

I used the Snap on stuff at an old job and its awesome but expensive and hard to come by...

I worked at a big tire factory for years. The machines that mixed the rubber with carbon black and other stuff were incredibly dirty to work on. Replacing the thermocouples in the actual mixing cavity was a nightmare.

We got 2 hours paid to getting clean, company had special showers , saunas and cleaning stuff. One simple trick for the fingernails was to scratch a bar of soap so the "dirt capture area" under the nails was filled upp with soap b4 starting to work

Worked great, use it now 50 years later, just as effective when wrenching on dirty car parts.

I've got a gallon jug of Fast Orange Professional with pumice in the garage. Works good enough for me but I'm not too fussy and when that runs out I'll buy whatever is on sale at that time.

For some reason Fast Orange works a lot better if you have dry hands. If you rinse hands before using it does not work as well. I think that is why people think it does not work well.

I've used them all, then a friend turned me on to Jack's Magic hand cleaner. By far the best I've used and won't use anything else. You can find it at handcleaner.com but I found some at a local Ace hardware. Not all of them carry it.

I purchased some Cherry made by Zep and it has pumice . It works well and has a nice smell. $17 or so for a gallon at Zoro.

I prefer Dawn dish soap myself.

My dad taught me a trick years ago. Before you get dirty, rub dish soap into your hands and under your nails (like you would apply hand lotion) until it's dry. The grunge sticks to the soap instead of your hands and makes clean up faster and easier.

:D Miss ya dad ....

I keep the orange dispense bottles all over the shop. In the house I've got lava bars and a small scrub brush I got from Napa for like $3. Works great for under the nails. My hair and nails grow really fast so Im always getting old grease and oil in there.

If you've got diesel or old nasty burned up bearing grease stuck in your skin the best thing to get it out pronto is ****** fluid. Rub the ****** fluid on it and then fast orange it right away and it's gone.

A lot of the cleaners really tear my hands up to the point they start splitting around my fingernails, or worse yet, the thumb has slices in it. I found a product I absolutely love and it is called Bear Paw. It seems like it may have Borax in it, but with some other stuff that makes it smell good, and possibly has some lanolin in it also. Other than that, I like Borax. It's gritty, but it doesn't tear my hands up like GoJo or Fast Orange. The downside of it is that it can plug up a sink if you use too much. When I was working I used to repair heavy, greasy dies. I was constantly washing my hands up to 15-20 times a day. Both Bear Paw and Borax neither one tore my hands up but would get them super clean.

I worked in a print shop for 30 years. We used an industrial version of Gojo. Solvent first when necessary then Gojo, a state contract item. The early years we used organic solvents then we switched to inorganic which weren't considered as powerful.

Zep always worked for me and they have a nice HD wall-mount pump. Gojo or Fast Orange just seem too watery for my tastes. I try to wear nitrile gloves whenever possible though.

I don't have a vote for a cleaner but I do use the brush. Not just under my nails but on stubborn spots on the hands also. That's what surgeons do to get the tiny little germs off. :dunno:

Every orange cleaner with pumice I use leaves my hands a dried out, cracked ****** mess after a few days of maintenance shifts, but that's all we get supplied. I'd like to use the gel style with lanolin in it to see if it prevents this. The only thing that heals my hands is Uremol 20 and it's expensive stuff.

I work for a large printing company as a pressman. They have gojo dispensers all over the place, and it's fine for the general production workers, but it's worthless for the guys that work with ink all day. We either use mean green or blue coral. Both are excellent, super pumice heavy, expensive, and not for guys with tender skin. They are both specifically made for taking ink off your hands, dirt and grease isn't even a challenge.
