Assuming the Permatex brand of stuffs, what's the huge differences in color?

Blue is supposedly "sensor-safe", and is a -65 deg F to 500 deg F, while black is -75 deg F to 450 deg F.

Is the extra 10 deg negative a big factor to use black over blue?

What about reds, oranges, clears, coppers, etc. ?

Seems like a lot of them are now sensor safe.
Years ago the light blue was sensor safe, orange was high temp & sensor safe, dark blue, black, clear were all regular just different colors.

In addition to color differences there are differences in resistance to certain chemicals. For example, at work we don't use regular blue RTV on differential covers because the instruction doesn't list a differential cover as an application for blue but, it does for ultra blue. We only use ultra grey for intakes, oil pans, and other engine areas. Here's a link for an application guide.

I use ultra grey or black on everything... or "The Right Stuff" if I never had to take back apart and it it's a part that has a history of leaking.

I use black for almost everything personally but then again the only sensors my car has are ones to run the oil pressure idiot light and the hot/cold idiot lights.

We use Superflex Silicone Sealant, Red Temp Range -75 To 600 Deg for heater terminals and heat exchanger gaskets on machines at my company. It cost $18.00 for 300 ml but it's well worth the price.

I use ultra copper on everything. Tip keep it in a zip lock bag with most of the air pushed out of it. It will last for years that way.
