Hmm... I need a lab bench for the spare bedroom and I've been meaning to build one. That could fit the bill.

Wonder if you can fit 2 HF 48" under there....

i had the same idea. so i did some research. they only have the interior dimensions for the 48 inch listed. so i would assume you can just double the length. this is what i found on home depots site.
The inside dimensions underneath the table are 31.3/4" H x 39 1/16" W X 24" D
then i went out and measured my hf box. with the wheels it is 39 1/4hx18dx42w so it is to tall with the wheels with no wheels it is 33 high still to tall and also to wide.

The height could be dealt with, the width would be alittle harder.

Thanks!

Dang, that's a great deal. I built one a few years ago. Just the 12 gauge galvanized steel top was about $120, plus lumber.

This table apparently has a 22/24 gauge stainless steel top, so your top is much more sturdy. The legs are listed as being 16-19 gauge steel.

I've been eyeing the gladiator workbenches, but they cost much more - even on sale. The 8' bamboo adjustable Gladiator (white) was recently on sale for $300 at Lowes, and the 6' table was about $220.

The stainless is pretty thin but it's actually laid over a 1 1/4" wood substrate. Assuming it's some sort of plywood but not sure. Here's a picture from one of the reviews on the HD page. You can see the top up side down in the background.

What's with the tray at the back against the wall? Why doesn't the top go all the way?

Not my picture. I stole it from the HD reviews. I have one ordered so I'll be glad to measure once I get it. Not sure when that will be. Order status just says that it being processed at this point.

This is awesome! Thanks lordy.

I'm thinking of getting 2 and bolting them together front to front so I have a tray on each long side, or I could only mount one tray and leave the other side alone. I think I'd hold the two separate tops together and screw them to one piece of plywood so there's that much more bracing holding the two tables together and not allowing them to separate making a gap. I'd also want to make a full lower shelf out of a piece of 4x8 plywood to be supported by the lower brace bars since they would then would be the perimeter and not allow cabinets to slide under the table. I'll post progress if I do any of this.

Best thing is that this should be a super solid table and will cost about the same amount of money as if I were to spend a week building a solid 4x8 table out of lumber. (I have two little kids and I work slow, so yeah, it would take me a week to build a large bench from scratch)

I text my wife and told her the work benches I had been watching went half price. she responded "probably should grab them" I took that as the green light to order 2, would you guys agree?

I got the bamboo top, most reviews said the stainless was easily dented. I like the stainless look better but it doesn't sound like it will handle the abuse I will put it through.

I keep hovering around the buy button on this but I can't make up my mind. 200$ Seems cheap for an 8ft work surface. It'd be a nice jumpstart for my lab. Gah.

Absolutely!!! What I did was say to my wife, "You know that bench I've been needing for my metal fab area? Well, I just ordered it." :)

I did opt for the stainless. I'll be using my cold cut saw on this bench and doing soldering etc... I think the stainless is a better choice for my use than the bamboo even if it's gets some dents and scratches.

The 96" is 88" between, so 2 HF 44" boxes (actual width 42") will fit if you do something about the height.

Thanks for the info.
I assume you have the bench and the HF tool boxes. Just a couple more questions:

How much does the table have to be raised so the tool boxes can fit underneath.?

Is the tool box flush with the front of the bench?

ETA:

Nevermind I just saw the post from Gelndale

I just noticed that Amazon has them with free shipping coming from Wayfair for 209$. I might go with that as I have no way to get home a giant box. I didn't realize it'd cost me 55$ to get it shipped to my home from HD! Add to that I can use my Discover rewards and earn 5% back. Might be a good option for some of you out there.

Heck you can rent a truck for cheaper than that!

The frame of the bench is 18" deep so it matches the depth of the box, but that's the outer measurement so you can't fit the box inside the frame to make up the 1.5" in height. You can use the foot adjusters to get up to 33" high with about 1/2" engagement left so you could possibly make it work.

One thing I forgot was the 96" bench has a support beam running across the back legs about 12" from the ground. That means the tool box can't go all the way back flush with the rear bench top frame. It would still come up about flush with the front of the top though. There would be ~1 5/8" exposed on top of the box and it would be about 3" up to the bottom of the bench top.

the wood surface has a 20 inch depth only because of the tray. My dad was about to purchase this...but that tray in the back...imagine all the **** that is going to accumulate back there.
