i bought a tool box set on ebay that came with a load of tools in it. some of it is ****, i’m giving about 25% of it to charity, keeping about 15%, and selling off the rest.

since some have asked, i posted the story as i understand it here:

http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=338680

of the rest, most of it is not things that i think will be of interest here, but are still things that i think might be of some value. i intend to ebay all that stuff.

there is a small amount of high grade or specialized tools that i think might be of interest to the members here. i have looked on ebay at sales that completed successfully (IE: things that actually sold) rather than just listings. i intend to offer the better stuff here first, at a discount of 25% to 30% off the average of completed sales over the summer on ebay. if, after some period of time, they dont sell here i will move them over to ebay. while i want to recoup some of what i spent, i am not looking to make a killing, nor do i have a clear idea of what most of this is “worth”.

please note that some “sets” are either missing pieces, or have other brands filling in missing items. i have noted it where i can, but there was a lot of stuff, and some of it had gotten spread around inside the box. if you noticed something is missing that should be there, let me know, i might have it, and not realize what should be included.

back when i used to pay for cable tv, i used to watch Pawn Stars and Antiques Roadshow occasionally. the one thing i learned is that “cleaning something up to sell it” is usually a bad idea. the only cleaning i have done is to make engraving more legible. i’ll try to describe things as well as i can. if you need more information, just ask, i will also try and take a few more images if you want.

i am separating the items into postings by brand or function, along with occasional listings for things that dont really fit elsewhere. if you are interested in several things, or one thing for less than i am asking, make an offer. this is not personal. something is worth only what someone will pay for it. some of the stuff i’ll keep rather than let go too low, but neither of us will know what that figure is until someone asks.

if it is still up, it was still available the last time i logged in. if there are negations going on, i will mark them PENDING. when someone commits, i’ll delete it.

i am too new to this to try and quote shipping for various items, especially since i hope you are going to be interested in getting more than one thing. i hate the cost of shipping, and arent looking to make a profit there. let me know what you are interested in, and what your zip code is, and i’ll figure it out and let you know before you have to commit.

payments thru money orders or paypal. if you are local, and are picking things up, cash works too.

i have tested things like the air tools and socket ratchets to make sure that they turn, but have not done any usability or stress tests. they are sold with a good faith opinion that they work. things that didnt are either noted (like a certain cracked socket), or just not included.

PM me with questions or offers, or corrections for things i have mislabeled or gotten wrong. thanx for looking.

most people think that john lennon said "life is what happens when you are busy making other plans." the internet seems to have determined that, actually, it is traceable to a quote from allen sanders in a 1957 issue of reader's digest.

john lennon was 16 in 1957, and met paul mc cartney that year. i doubt lennon was reading reader's digest, or came across a copy in the next few years. so, either great ideas manifest themselves repeatedly, or there is a reason you never saw john lennon and allen sanders in the same place at the same time.

aaaaannnnnnnyyyyyywwwwwwaaaaaayyyyyyyy, the reason i wanted to include the quote was that i had planned to update these listings last week. the reason i didnt is that, as they say, life happened. so, here i am updating the listings, but life is still happening. it may take me a day or two to get back to you, or a day or two for me to get your purchases out the door if we agree on terms.

as i have noted, i will accept reservations on a first come basis. if you want something someone else has asked for first, i'll note you are in line, and hold your purchase until that item resolves, if you like.

thanx for your patience.

so, jonas was a mechanic with a big snap-on tool box. we know he had some snap on tools. from the looks of the receipts, he had a lot more than were left in the box when i got it.

ok, there are clearly two groups of people selling snap-on stuff on ebay. the people who are *sure* they know the value of every piece, and are going to wait until someone realizes they are right, damnit!, and those who actually manage to sell something.

as i have stated, i have based the prices here on items that actually sold, hopefully in similar condition to what i have.

well, enough with all that, lets get started.

an old 71-M (L) ratchet. as you can see, it has been repaired. i bet it was not done on a truck, either.

i dont know what is up with that. i haven’t opened it, and am selling it as is. there are still repair kits on ebay for these ratchets. i assume whomever tried to fix this lost track of one of the screws while they had it apart, and this is eventually what they did. i assume that there is a story as to why it never got "really" fixed, but we will never know.

these are not worth what you would think, it seems. must be from before they started making their tools from unicorn horn. anyway, ebay seems to like 15$ and up. asking 10$ + shipping.

a set of 10 chrome 1/2" snap-on sockets, made in 1951 and 1952 (according to the marks, see the images). in remarkably good shape, considering their age.

they are:

sw181 9/16”
sw191 19/32”
sw201 5/8”
sw221 11/16”
sw241 3/4”
sw251 25/32”
sw261 13/16”
sw281 7/8”
sw291 29/32”
sw321 1”

quite the collection, eh? everyone has a 15/16” socket, how many have a 29/32”? dont see 19/32” much either. of course, you dont see those nuts very often i suppose. . . .

but i digress. “vintage” snap on sockets start at about 3$ each, plus shipping, going up based on, i dont know, size? rarity? age? it is a dark art, i suppose.

there are ten sockets, and i’m looking for 40$ + shipping.

a set of 3/8” metric sockets in a red SO KTA 230 rack.

they have all been loved a lot, and show the signs of being the go to sockets for years.

they are F19M through F9M, inclusive, 11 sockets total. on ebay, individual metric sockets go for 9$ shipped. this 11 socket set, with that great retro rack from 1964 has got to be worth 70$ plus shipping.

there was a little bit of everything in the SO loose ”chrome” sockets. 1/4”, 3/8”, 1/2”. and here they are.

if you are ordering things from here, and are not taking “all the SO 3/8” stuff” please indicate what you want by part number.

the 1/4 drive sockets are represented by these four sockets: (quantity two) TM8 1/4” shallow, one STMD11 11/32 deep, and one STMMD10 10mm deep.

three of the last 4 TM8’s sold on ebay went for 10$ or more, the last went for 8, all shipped. i’m asking for 4$ + shipping each.

the STMD11 sells for 6.75 shipped for a brand new one. some guy there still has 40 more, if you are interested. the STMMD10 seems to go for about 9 shipped. i’d like 4$ each + shipping.

14.jpg

the 3/8’s are the biggest class, with 8 assorted items.

starting at the left of the image: FX2 2” extension, FAM6 6mm hex bit. across the top side: SFS241 3/4 deep, SFS121 3/8 deep, SFS161 1/2” deep. across the bottom side: FRS70 wheel ratchet, F10M 10mm shallow, FH161 1/2 shallow.

so, i looked them all up on ebay, and decided on prices. rather than type it all in, i’m just cutting to the chase:

FX2 5$ plus shipping
FAM6 8$ plus shipping
FRS70 15$ plus shipping
F10M 4$ plus shipping
F161 4$ plus shipping
SFS241 7$ plus shipping
SFS121 7 $ plus shipping
SFS161 3$ plus shipping

38 s.jpg 38 t.jpg 38 b.jpg

three items in the SO 1/2” drive group. an A15 drag link, a TW201 5/8” 6 point socket, and a SW27M 27mm 12 point socket.

both of the sockets seem to sell on ebay for about 10$ shipped. looking for 5$ each + shipping

the last few A15’s are between 11$ and 20$ shipped. asking 7$ + shipping

deep impact. sounds like a great name for a movie, eh?

here are some loose SO deep 1/2” impact sockets. there are nine of them. they show the love that happens when they get used regularly, but none of the abuse that lower quality tools might suffer.

SIM320 1”, SIM300 15/16”, SIM280 7/8”, SIM260 13/16”, SIM240 3/4”, SIM220 11/16”, SIM200 5/8”, SIM180 9/16”, SIM160 1/2” (starting at the bottom right, and going clockwise. what can i say, it made sense at the time).

on ebay, various sized sets seem to go from 50$ (7 pieces) to 110$ (11 pieces). individually, they seem to go for about 10$ each shipped. there are nine, so i want 60$ + shipping for the set.

12 s.jpg 12 t.jpg 12 a.jpg

here is a SO 3/4 Drive Impact Socket 13/16" Square for Budd Wheel BW262a, at least, that is how ebay refers to them. they go for about 20$ to 30$ shipped on ebay, asking 10$ + shipping.

shallow impact. after they made that movie, they stopped making more in the series. . . .

there are six loose SO shallow impact sockets, three 1/2” and three 3/8”.

the three 1/2” drive SO shallow impact sockets are two IM240 3/4&19mm (the socket is stamped for both 3/4” and 19mm) and one IM200 5/8”. ebay seems to value these at 12$ each shipped, asking 5$ each + shipping.

12 s.jpg 12 t.jpg 12 b.jpg

and there are three 3/8” drive SO shallow impact sockets, one each of IMF220 11/16”, IMF140 7/16”, and IMF120 3/8”.

ebay is all over the map on these, although it appears that sets sell for more per socket than singles.

anyway, 4$ each + shipping.
