Snap On F-71-C Rebuild?

Hi Everyone,

I'm looking for some information regarding a rebuild kit for a Snap On F-71-C ratchet. I called Snap On last week and they sent me a kit but it did not work. It was a 20 tooth kit and this ratchet was 30 tooth. I called back again and they said they no longer stock the correct kit (number 962 I think they said). This was my grandfather's ratchet so I much rather rebuild it then replace it (which SO offered to do). So does anyone know of a modern kit that would work or maybe have the correct kit laying around?

Any help is appreciated.

Thank you,
Paul

Thanks for the reply. Originally I got the rebuild kit because the ball bearing that would hold the socket on no longer had tension. The part behind the spring in gone, but the bearing is still there with no tension. Once I took it apart for the rebuild kit, the part that determines which direction the gear turns had a tooth sheared off. Sorry for the lack of technical terms. The only other thing I would need is the pin that goes through the selector and gets pressed through the part that determines the direction as the new one in the kit is too thick. If that isn't descriptive enough I will take pictures.

Thanks,
Paul

So, you need the 30 tooth wheel, the paw, the selector switch that fits thru the paw. I will include a new ball that fits behind the paw also. Do you need an instruction sheet?
I gots to gets to sleep, will answer tomorrow. Post me your address using the private message. Will send out Tues. But if you would like, you can send it to me and I will completely rebuild it using an new old stock factory kit, there would be no charge, It was your grandfather's so it is special. The F71C takes a special kit.

Thanks to snapmom, my ratchet is back to working order. For reference, the original rebuild kit number is L-962C.

Now I just got to give it a final cleaning and get to using it. It's dated 1953 which looks like one of the oldest tools I have from my grandfather. Makes me wonder how many projects he used it on and how many curse words he said when he was working on whatever stripped a few teeth lol.

Snapmom; that is the best thing I've ever seen! My hat is off to you, and hope your generosity comes back to you tenfold.

I also have a Snap On F-71-C that I need to rebuild. This was handed down to my from my dad. He worked in a gas/service station in the Detroit area in the mid-50's and purchased this from his local Snap-On guy. I also have had no luck in finding a L-962C Rebuild Kit. Does anyone know where I could find one?

Thanks!

I also have an F-71-C that needs a rebuild and I cannot find any info or a kit. I am a third generation in the field and would love to put it back to daily use. Any info would be a help.

I do not have another kit. The best solution is to buy a F71C on ebay, and use the parts that you need. If you need a new ball or screws, I have them.

Snapmom I am sorry for posting on an ancient thread but needed to ask you a question but I don’t yet have the privilege of direct msg. What are the internal differences between the F-71-C and the F-71-A, my 71-A is from ‘48

Snapmom,

Sorry to bug you but I picked up a Snapon F-71-C last weekend at a garage sale. It's in pretty good shape but it's missing one screw. Do you still have an extra? I'm not sure what I'd have to trade. Maybe an old Snapon socket????

Adding to a very old thread here, but speaking of F-71-C ratchet wrenches...I just wanted to show off my old rare 1951' Snap-On Canadian F-71-C ratchet wrench. Considering how old it is, it's in remarkably nice shape for it's age. And of course, it's in good working condition! Well anyway, thanks and enjoy!👍
