Got back after a $400 trip to Costco, and while I was there I picked up this new cordless light. It's being sold under the CAT brand for $29 I believe. Back of the package looks like it's made by EZ red. It has an internal battery that charges with a plug-in wall charger. Two settings, it's advertised at 1100 lumens and 550 lumens. It cycles high - off - low - off.. Looks to be a new cob style led with a focusing lens cover. I just had it outside in the dark next to my Milwaukee m18 floodlight (the original hex shaped model), and it's seems a bit dimmer than the m18 with both on high. It's still plenty bright though. It has a whiter tone to the light. I just bought it, so I can only tell you that I'm impressed with the output, the size, and and how well made it seems. Another Costco hit maybe? It's gotta be 1/4 of the size of the Milwaukee. Only complaint I have so far is it woulda been nice if it had a hook, or a split stand to use AS a hook.. Some pics for size comparison, you'll have to take my word on the light output. It's a very even and clear spread.. Charge time says 3-5 hours. 3 hr runtime on high, 6 hrs on low. Has a USB output port to charge a phone if that matters to anyone. The rear stand rotates 180 degrees up/down with a few click stop positions along the way. Rotated all the way up it protrudes up past the light. suppose to use as a handle, or a place you can tie the light up I assume. 3 LED light fuel gauge on the back with status button. For $29 it seems to be a pretty good buy so far..

I really need to get into Costco to grab one of those and play around with it. Also it's IP64 rated so it should be fine in the rain. I don't believe the M18 flood is ok for any moisture. At least the one I have has open holes for the heatsink on the top.

This past year they had some smaller cat branded led lights that have magnets so you can stick them places. They had a couple different sizes in the pack. I stuck one to the gun safe.

Thanks for the review! Seen them but was hesitant to pull the trigger since I was not able to find many reviews.

I remember seeing another set of Cat branded lights a while back too.. They were small and I think came in a pack with like a small COB style "pen" light (for lack of a better term), and a mini style flood.. Rebraded EZ red lights too I guess. I passed on those, but when I saw the 1100 lumen on this I couldn't pass up another toy. It was either this or the $24 mini quad copter they have. This seemed like more for the money.. I had no idea they were selling online for so much.. Charge time kinda *****, but you're not spending $$ on a replaceable battery so ya can't complain too much I guess..

Edit - here's a bonus

$8.99 cob led "pen" light from Nebo.. Just like the CAT one if I remember

Nebo 6352 Larry C 170 lm C-O-B LED Power Work Flashlight with 3 AAA Batteries Included, Grey https://www.amazon.com/dp/B015ORUQ0C/?tag=atomicindus08-20

Those Nebo Larry's are a similar technology but are not the same as the CAT COB lights. The CAT COB lights are made by EZ-Red and are identical to their EZ-Red Pocket COB lights: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0186NCV5Y/?tag=atomicindus08-20

Also here are the CAT COB lights: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B012BR6D1E/?tag=atomicindus08-20

They are awesome and I own like 10 of them and have them all over my house / garage. I even made TWO YT videos about them. I also give them to everyone as gifts for birthdays / Christmases and such.

I have a Nebo Big Larry and I do not like the construction quality on it at all. I'm very afraid of breaking it. Versus the EZ-Red/CAT COBs I have accidentally thrown them and they went bouncing down the concrete driveway still happily lighting the way. They're pretty tough.

I wish I had a Costco closer than 50 miles away, I already spend a fortune at BJs, but Costco has some good tool/home items sometimes.

Darn you KCT, now I'll have to go and hit up Costco! You are definitely costing me money, and I'll be sending you a bill soon. :lol_hitti Still waiting to buy the Milwaukee searchlight, and I know to check your postings as you'll be the first one here to own it.
Thanks a bunch:beer:

Looks like a standard shrink-wrap NiMH or NiCd pack. Interstate Batteries, etc, can make those to order if you can't find it off the shelf.

Ya know what - it never even dawned on me to find out what type of battery is in this thing.. I just assumed it was lithium.. . One thing I've noticed, is I have this light at work right now, and the cob light looks to be the same size as the led I'm my coast headlamp.. how nice would that be.. transplant this light into a headlamp with 3 settings and an adjustable spot / flood lens .. the coast HL8 I think is what I have.. it's 390 lumens and it's great.. imagine an 1100 lumen transplant... lol.. don't think I'm brave enough for surgery just yet..

Edit.. looks like it would work to me..

Nice info Typhoon, Ive walked past those a few times wondering about them.

One thing to note about the "pen" type CAT lighting combo at Costco, they are the what I assume older single chip LEDs not the newer COB style.... at least at my location.

The CAT inspection lights at Costco are all old style LED at least as far as I've seen. I get the newer COB ones from either Amazon or the Caterpillar Visitor's Center in downtown Peoria.

Also, my girlfriend's family was in town today which means I can go visit the jerks at Costco.

I brought home one of my very own. I'm a bit on the fence about it still. I think I like it but it'll take a bit of time. Build quality on it feels very good. I can't figure out how to go between high and low light because I left the manual out in the car. I'll go get it at some point and find out. I don't like that it doesn't show charge state while it's charging so you have to actually pick it up and hit the button to see if it's full. Also there's no "done" lamp for charging so you just look and it shows 3 bars. You can't really tell if it's totally topped up though like a Milwaukee charger with the red/green lights.

I think I am going to keep it in my car as it'll be nice to always have a work light with me, and since it uses its own battery it's not like I'm committing to lose one of my M12 or M18 batteries keeping a Milwaukee light in my car all the time. When my good camera gets back from Panasonic warranty service I think I'll do a big video showing it against the M18 Flood, the M12 Stick... and any other lights I'll have bought by then. :shocking:

I can't seem to stop buying lights.

The swap between hi and low is just with the power button.. Press it on, (it's on high) press it off, press it on again (it's on low).. It's hard to tell at first, but go in a dark room and you will notice the difference in lighting output.. Also - I believe the "done" indicator light is on the charger , that is plugged into the wall.. I'm pretty sure there is an indicator light on it that switches between red and green.. Green being it's fully charged..

No - it's not a Milwaukee flood light- but it's not $100, and doesn't require another $100 for a charger and battery either.. The charge time is LONG. I think I'll be keeping it in the back of my car as an emergency worklight / phone charger - that's better then my current m18 pistol grip version.

Yep, you're right about the charger. It turns green when it is full. That's approximately the same as the Milwaukees. I still can't tell the difference between the light modes but maybe I'll be able to see it when I do some constant exposure side by sides for a video. Oh also at my local Costco the Snap-On 2000 Lumen work lights were down to 24$, and they had pallets full of them.

It took me a little while too, to realize the difference with the hi/low.. It's harder to tell cause your not seeing the light go FROM low, to high as the next step.. Since you need to switch it off first, your not noticing the step up/down as much as you would expect.. Once you get use to it, you'll be able to tell..

I'm still debating on buying one to cannibalize, and another coast headlight to see if I can swap the brighter COB led into the headlamp. We'll see. The CAT more impressive if you go outside in the dark and turn it on.. It really does light up a wide area enough to be able to see what's around and not trip over everything. It's not exactly the "best" worklight I own - but keeping the cost vs performance in mind is a worthwhile purchase. I wouldn't buy it for the $100 people are selling it for online though...
