New Wrench racks: Cheapest toobox space I've ever bought

I bought some wrench racks today off the truck. Unbelievable how nice they work, I've looked for something like this for years, just found they had them.

Lets me put three times the wrenches in the same space. At 32.40 for the small and large wrench racks, it's the cheapest toolbox space I've bought in years. I'm going to get another 2 or 3 sets next time I'm on the truck. I'm not a fan boy, I have more tools of other manufacturers than Snap-on. But, for some things, they're just great. For some things, first class is barely enough. These are definitely first class in how well they work.

For perspective, the wrenches in the "big" rack are from about 1 1/2 to 2". The smaller rack is a set of metric from 8 to 32mm. The loose wrench shows the before picture of the large wrenches.

I was just telling someone in the toolbox thread about these. I have many sets of them. I actually only use the kra15a as they work fine for even my larger wrenches. They're great and you're right about condensing a ton of space in the drawer.

Are you able to fit one of the big ones in every slot or do you have to skip one every once in a while? They do look like they sit dang nicely in your picture.

I didn't have to skip a slot, but they do rub on each other. Don't take those big wrenches out often, so not a problem. I was surprised how well they worked, I didn't expect them to work on the big boys very nicely, it was a pleasant surprise how well they worked. It's obvious that these were designed by someone who actually tested them, not just found a picture of someone else's design on the internet and made it in china to look like the picture.

I have one nice Snap On set like that in my home box that I bought used with them already in it. I have tried several others but they aren't the same. I even made one of my own out of wood which is almost as good but not quite and not worth the effort to do again. My work box (part time) is smaller and I think I really need to invest in a couple or three new sets and end the agony. Same with socket organizers.

Yea, I bought them about 30 years ago from my Snap On guy. When I bought my new HF box, I found some more, but the depths and spacing was a little different.

I bought my set 20 years ago and just found I had an extra set. I was going to order a couple more.

Scotts

what the number on that set, I just remember mine being something 15 and it's still listed.

Mine above are the Ernst brand. Notice the different size groovs. My Snap Ons were symmetrical and seemed to work better.

KRA15A is the smaller size set, just right for wrenches up to about 1 1/4". The larger set is KRA22A

I called my dealer up and had him order 3 more 15A's for me to put the rest of my wrenches on edge, instead of stacked flat.

They tend to be a little unstable if you don't glue them down. Then you lose your drawer liners, and flexibility if you want to move them. So I make custom racks by gluing them to a flat piece of aluminum.

Yep, the KRA15A are probably the best wrench rails out there. I've used them for years. I can remember when they were red & US made

Other brands like Ernst are too tall and a little on the thin side. Now the KRA15A won't work for you if you want to carry a rack of wrenches somewhere but, that's why my tool cart has wheels:lol:

The best thing about the KRA15A rails is you can cut them to fit just about any drawer and you can use them for probably any type of wrench (ratcheting, stubby, x long, flare, etc.).

You wouldn't think making a wrench rail would be that hard but, from looking at other offerings, it might be.

Interesting. So does anyone else find the SO rails unstable in a drawer with liners? Thinking about ordering some of the 15's but this gives me pause...

I think they would only be unstable if cut down for a smaller set but, if they run the width of the drawer, you would have no issues. Besides, the double sided tape on the bottom of the rails sticks to drawer liners just fine.

They are unstable unless you fasten them down. In my boxes I use 3m double sided automotive emblem foam tape to fasten them down. The tape is strong enough to hold the wrenches but won't ruin paint finish in the drawers like hot glue would if you ever decide to move the racks...

Thx for the feedback. Anyone tried adhesive backed magnetic strips?

Ernst have a low profile set. It takes a bit more space since the wrenches aren't tilted up as much

I'm Very glad this thread came up. Off to order a set of the Snap On KRA15A's.

30 years ago when I bought them I stuck them down to my drawer liners and they stayed put. Now that I have changed boxes, I really like that Aluminum plate idea. Might have to borrow it!

I have a bunch of thin aluminum that has a texture paint on one side... I'm so going to make bottoms to my wrench racks... well I'm adding it to the list of things I will make in a month when I'm "allowed to play" in my shop.

I may have to order me some of these for the few sets of wrenches that I couldn't seem to find a way to organize.
