Having to many ratchets is all in the mind. Evey time I think I have to many I find one I don't have and have to add it to collection. Right now I have a drawer for each size, plus a drawer for all my 1/2" extensions & breaker bars. All extension sizes also have their own drawers. Plus the separate drawer for overflow ratchets & extensions of all sizes.

one million.

if you have one million ratchets, you have too many ratchets.
any number below that is "almost enough".
Still have a little ways to go. Just filled up a small roller cab.
67 1/4 and 9/32 drives
137 3/8 drive
132 1/2 drive
3 3/4 drive
Not counting sets or plomb items.

Here's a few vintage Craftsman ratchets. You can never have too many.

I can't keep up with you guys.

I've got 1x 1/4" drive
1x 3/8"
1x 1/2"

All standard length, so no short/extra short/stubby/long/extra long/flex/palm/bent/curved/crooked/summer/winter versions or any other ****.

I don't have to spend any time deciding which ratchet to use, just pick the one that fits the socket I'm going to use. Save time cleaning and storing my tools also, just toss them in my carry box. Easy to keep track of my tools also, open box, look in, it e.g 3/8" drive ratchet (my favorite) is either there or it's not. No opening closing multiple drawers to find a misplaced item. If it breaks, I'll fix it or get another. If I lose it, ditto.
I've got all bases covered and I'm quite happy.

Oh yeah, just remembered, I've also got a 3/4" drive. Don't use it much as I've only got a few 3/4" drive sockets (in the sizes I need). It was so cheap ($6 on clearance) it doesn't even have China stamped on it, but it works just fine.

Did I mention I'm happy......

Wow, you all have some amazing collections. Hey Olsen, what make is the ratchet in your third photo that is under the beam torque wrench? I never seen one like that before, it looks like a ratchet head on the end of a speed wrench? Pretty cool:rocker:

Different strokes for different folks. Happiness is variable and subjective. Don't judge others for their collections ...

Rileysan, You're right on. Nothing wrong with as many as you like in a collection.

The key is recognizing it's a collection, not a user set with 90 ratchets in it. If you think it's a user set and it has more than a couple dozen, you're a hoarder, and might need some help. If you recognize it's a collection, it's a rewarding and harmless pastime.

I came to the realization that I wasn't a collector, was really a user, and went through my stuff and brought it more into line with what I actually can use. That has helped me greatly; freeing up the space and freeing up cash to buy the things I really would like that I couldn't justify purchasing. Now, there is an element of collecting in my sfuff, also. I have an accumulation of Proto stuff that goes beyond user needs; although it overlaps somewhat with my user tools.

Collect as many ratchets as you want! I'm all for a great collection. I can never have too many Diamond Calk tools.

Here are some older pictures of my ratchet drawers. They have been added to, and rearranged a couple times since.

I have a drawer full of ratchets, as well as a few in boxed sets. I also have a drawer full of extensions and breaker bars. Plus a few overflow ratchets in the drawers with the appropriate sized sockets
