That looks like a prototype, or perhaps a model. Even so, I like their thinking!

Good quality, mid priced, US made tools are what's needed by a lot of folk at the mo! If they have their own unique styling and following, even better!

I wish SK all the best!

Maybe, hopefully, we'll be able to pre order them by Epstein Day 2017.

I saw that posted on SK's facebook page today. I just hope it's an addition to the line and not a replacement for the round heads. I personally like the round head ratchet and more often than not I grab the round over a pear.

I just said this the other day, but I would like SK to incorporate their 6 pawl design from their x-frame ratchet wrenches into a pear head ratchet, or high tooth round head. I think that would be sweeeet...:rocker::rocker:

It won't replace the round heads . In fact there is a rumored fine tooth kit going to be available to drop in older ratchets.

When Hell Freezes Over

Is it my eyes, or is SK trying to compete with the Harbor Freight composite ratchet?

It doesn't look like it's made of steel to me alas, it's a prototype so it might not be steel:dunno:

So what about the handle, usual SK knurling? What about tooth count?

It would be nice if SK could deliver a fine toothed pear head ratchet within the next 6 months to maybe a year and I would probably buy one or two but, my money is on the new PROTO 90 tooth ratchets beating SK to market. SK teases on Facebook but, never seems to deliver new products.:wtf::lol:

To me it looks like it's made of steel but not chromed or treated of any kind. Which makes sense since it was a prototype.

The floating pawl design of the X-Frame is omni-directional so they couldn't have carried anything over. The head also must have quite a low profile for them not to keep the direction selector flush, it's interesting. Between this and the upcoming Proto precision line, the handle might be the deciding factor for me personally. The more knurling, the better.

My philosophy, buy them both.................as many versions as you or we can, support them. Well as long as they perform up to snuff!

I saw it posted on Facebook today too. I figured it would show up on here. Not that I don't like a classic SK ratchet but I'd be interested if SK made a sealed ratchet with a high tooth count. I'm pretty excited. I kind of like the idea of R and L instead of On and Off. Not that I work with left handed fasteners but when you do it can be confusing.

I'd like to support them, problem is their R&D department is moving at a snails pace. They've been manufacturing for what, 5+ years? Only new product is combo ratcheting wrenches (which, once again, where are the longer double box??).

Exactly!!!!:bowdown::bowdown:

How hard can it be to graft the X frame ratcheting box end to an extra long wrench with a fixed boxed end on the other side? Or an extra long double box ratcheting end version? Let us not forget a flex head version....

Or how about mating that super strong non slip open end found on the X frame ratcheting wrench to their long pattern combination wrenches?

Great to see SK finally showing something new ratchet wise. Wonder what will set it apart from every other highish tooth count ratchet out there...

I hope this comes soon, I really want an SK socket set but don't like the round ratchets so I was looking at Gearwrench, this will make me wait.

That's coming as soon as they they replace their forging hammers/molds. Probably trying to get all the life out of the current ones that they can and make the switch when they need to buy new hammers. Believe the timeline was for them to switch hammers over by the end of the year.

Would love to give one a try! I haven't ventured into 1/2 drive where my ratchet collection is concerned, I'm still swingin' a 7-15 snap-on. Probably look at 1/2 dr from SK, Proto, or Mac when I do.

What if that SK employee that posted on here previously came back and asked for volunteers to real world test them?

I'd buy new projects just to give it a run for it's money.

I was referring to a design similar to the Williams superratchet with the dual pawl.

How would you reverse it? The wrench is flat and just flips over. They used to make ratchets where the square drive pushed through the ratchet. I don't see that coming back as a way to incorporate a six pawl. A lot of so called fine tooth ratchets do not actually have fine teeth but have two pawls that have an offset so only one engages at a time, like the idea in six pawl, effectively doubling the number of teeth.
