What's the vintage of this CM box?

As the title states...
This box is being sold for $20 and I'm thinking of picking it up.

EDIT: since the original pictures from Craiglist has been deleted, I've added my own picture.

The name tag should be a clue, but sadly not to me. The price however, seems like a good deal.

The Craftsman logo on that box was generally in use between about 1945 and 1959. To get more precise dates you will need to spend some time looking through old Sears or Craftsman hand tool catalogs to find what years that particular box was sold.

Nice looking box and reasonable price BTW. Go for it.

Mistake one, stopping to think about buying it and not acting on it instead!
mistake two, posting about it here instead of being enroute to gather the bounty!
mistake three, reading this message and not having the box by your side while you are reading it!
mistake four, missing the capture of said box from the wild and having to come back here and report on your screw up!

I sure hope for your sake I am wrong, it might be a long time till you find another box quite that cool again!

If I lived near you, you would be SOL. That is an early Craftsman box in good shape. I differ lauver and say it is a pre-war box. He is more educated about Craftsman than I, but the design of the box its self appears to be pre-war.

Oh boy....I don't really have the space to fit that box in my tiny garage, but I'll just have to make room for it. It's a piece of history and the price tag is just too good to let go.

Uncle Buck, you pretty much sealed my decision....I guess I should thank you? I should thank everyone else, too, for that matter.

It's been on the market since the 13th and luckily it's still available. Luck is with me; I've already made arrangements to pick it tomorrow. :bounce:

I would LOVE to have that box... especially for the dirt cheap price!
I'm finding I like having smaller boxes for specific needs: one for all the stuff at my drill press, a roll-around for my welder (instead of a cart), a 3-drawer box on a cart for all my electrical tools and brake job/tune up tools... I'd use that one for all my measuring tools, calipers, etc. It'd fit very nicely on a work counter or bench.
