I have been a long time lurker and thought it was time to share my build experience. As have many others here on GJ I have made do over the years with what I had available at the time in the houses we have owned. After I lost my wife a couple of years ago it shook me to my core and woke me up to the fact that life is short and you have to start doing the things that you have dreamed of or always planned to do. So I found that piece of property we had always been looking for but never got around to buying and have started my dream building.I am not sure on how to attach pictures so that will be a work in progress, I have uploaded some to an album but cant seem to get it the post:dunno:

First of all, sorry for your loss, I couldn't even imagine.

Welcome to GJ, as you know and are trying, we like pictures.
I use Tapatalk, it has been the easiest way for me to post photos. Just download the app and go to town.

Look forward to your build.

Re: 40X120 pole building build

Is your property bounded by the tracks and road?

Looks like your going to have a nice little compound.

How far do you have to run electric? Check with power company and see if they'll run underground and use a pad mount transformer, no overhead lines. When I ran power on mine, I installed the conduit and power co. came in and pulled cable. Didn't cost all that much. Well worth it.

Yes I back to the RR track, I love trains so thats a plus, and the old county dirt road. The local utility won't do underground so the plan is to have them put in 2 poles to get it on the property and I will do the underground and build the pad for the meter can.

Got the rack built for the meter can and main breaker, also the temp mounting spot for the RV power box so we can plug Emmy in.

c9aa2c704a5634e6f164a72ee807657a.jpg

Power co. Said we have to clear 20ft for them to be able to bring the poles in, so I'm not happy about it but no other way if I want power. We cleared the area next to the entrance just down far enough for them to set the 2 poles.

So after digging the trench and getting the poles set but before we could get the cable laid we had a few gully washers here in East Texas and the trench filled with mud and silt. Had to re dig the 200ft + trench and the 300 ft trench for the water supply. Didn't get any pictures was too busy trying to get it done before the next storm came in.

25e51d3568c7b0698913142a50dd83d3.jpg

Got the conduit in and the cable run then buried. Wired the meter can, now the temp RV box

Expect to change that thought many times as you get it closed in....put up interior finishes, frame out for the living side of your build.....etc. Then wait til you move all your "stuff" in...

Anyway looks nice and "BIG"...is your temp RV power on yet?

Well 2 months of weather delays and after several scheduled pours and no shows by the contractor, we have the pour scheduled in the morning. I have to re trench for the water line to the yard faucet so the crew can have access to water, well if it actually happens.

Re: 40X120 pole building build

I have been trying to get the build thread up to date as this building was started in June, I should have everything caught up in a week or so with the progress.

Overall I'm happy with the results, they had a crew of 12 and it took them most of the day to pour and finish 74 yards of concrete.

Re: 40X120 pole building build

What is the benefit of burying poles into the ground, the pouring concrete vs pouring concrete, then mounting the poles on top of the concrete?

Is there a projected life span of those posts when they're buried like that?

Runt262 I don't have a good answer for you this is the only way I've seen a pole building done[emoji848] The one we had done at my Dads place in eastern WA 35 yrs ago is still just as solid as it was the day it was built do e the same way.
