I thought maybe I had better keep GJ member Twertsy on his feet, seems like if you fall asleep the vintage tool posts move along faster these days and you might miss a good post story.

Like the last story the vintage tools are easy to find but finding company information is on the lean side and again not found on the AA web-site.

Surprisingly it seems the company is still at the same address and the trademark is still renewed, but looking it up it gives a more modern start; I would guess it must have changed hands many times over since the 1920's.

Whalebone is the trademark for The Portage Tool Co. out of Akron, Ohio. The filing date for Whalebone was on 10/06/1926, the registration date was on 08/30/1927. First use anywhere on 12/19/1921 and first use in commerce on 12/19/1921.

The following link tells some more information about the tools that they made.

A little late to the party but here's another Whalebone cold chisel. Found on the two for a dollar table at the swap. Stamping is not very deep on this one. It's around 7" long. Ed.

I was rummaging through my old punch & chisel drawer looking for something interesting and came upon this. Where else but GJ would I find reference to Whalebone?

With my sailing background, my first thought was that it is a fid. I don't think so, though. I think it's a drift pin.

Another find in my old punch box. Whalebone 8283. The 2 and the 3 are kinda fancy lettering.
