Well it is time to build the toy/tool barn.

This is my humble shop site
Www.plastikosmd.com

So the barn is 50x60. The rear metal shop is about 25x30. Above that metal shop will be the wood shop. The rest of the space will go floor to rafters, all open (for automotive work etc). Rear right corner behind beam is welding and fab. Upper woodshed will have stair and a garage door for access to use forklift to lift larger projects and tools up there. We will have 3phase and 110/220.
Here goes...
(Update, due to photobucket hostage situation, pics will be later in thread)

Woodshop, door to left is access to attic for wood storage, garage door opens to main area for forklift access, dust collector pipe will come up on right side near window, through floor. Once again, dust collector home is down in metalshop in closet. I chose to just run pipe exposed, running along ceiling with drops to machines. (6 and 4" pvc.) While not as "clean" looking, I have had clogs before and I don't want to be digging up in ceiling.

Wow, great design there, I really love the big window front and center!

Great size as well. Good plan to add in the over-hung covered space, I wish I could have integrated something like that for my tractors...

Is the big metal tank (?) for heating oil or is it a BBQ conversion? :)

PLASTIK: maybe one of the nicest (AND QUICKEST) builds i've seen. great design and really looking forward to how you set it up.

i bet the garage door installers weren't happy to get the call that they installed the wrong tracks for your big doors.

i can't say i've seen that design yet so was it your own design or did you see another build either here on GJ or online to help you?

just in case you might want to stop in a great thread we started about woodworking in general last week the link is in my sig lin for Woodworking 101. i know you will be a welcomed addition to our growing group of members that have some interest in wood.

pictures are great, design is great and hoping to see more pictures along the way. also welcome to GJ and if you have any questions just ask and if you need help searching for something especially if you know it's on GJ you might Google it and find threads that way.

cheers

thank you, planning was a year, construction has been over past 5 months
site work was hard part
i love this site and hope to contribute
i found this site in searching for mobile column lifts for automotive lifts.
i have just purchased 4 new rotary 13k lifts, 4 jackstands (full height) and the bumper lift adapters. this is a new model that is not on the website yet. they are wireless (currently only the 18k lifts are wireless) and have a pendant for control so you are not tied to holding a button on a column. finally i added the weight gauges for each column

Wood shop, metal shop, blacksmith shop out back, and a JD tractor
I'd say you have all the bases covered.
and a very nice garage to go with all of that!!

Can't wait to see what goes inside the garage. must be a cool ride going inside.

Congrats and welcome to the group

Plastik: was all the equipment set up at your shop or old home's garage? i'm not eating popcorn at the moment cause trying to lose a few pounds and can't eat it without butter, but i tell you your cool garage and tools makes me think i'm at the movies and i just want to see more pictures when you have time to post them up.

i have the perfect chip trays for that lathe sitting outside a shop i lease that i'm hoping to put under a lathe i own some day. i'll get you a few pictures if you ask and i picked them up from a 130 year old steel fab company where the owner was retiring, but i didn't have a way to move the lathe or a place to use it. the gal that owned the place her great grand dad started took the lathe to her farm and said i could have the trays that are about 4 foot square and have maybe 6 inch lips on them.

is that steel next to your lathe or just something to stand on or do tell?

thanks for taking the time to post up pictures and i bet once you get moved in your shop the stuff you make might be even better.

what are you going to make out there or did you say?

A chip tray is a great project for that monarch. I would love a pic.
That is just a step, prior owner used it. I thought I would keep it.
I generally like to fix things I have broken! Mostly projects revolve around tractors, cars, firarms, etc

PLASTIK: i walk past the CHIP TRAYS every couple days and if it's not raining i'll get you a few pictures and measurements. if i was closer i'd let you borrow them until i needed them. if you have any questions about vises and maybe some old tools feel free to PM me with your email and i'll be happy to tell you what i know or maybe let you know a member's name that might know.

i really like your new garage/shop/space and sounds like BUDGET isn't in your vocabulary and I'd like to be in your shoes. everything looks AWESOME so far.

GOOD LUCK!!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!

finished the dust collection for wood shop. The
collector resides in metal shop below in closet. Controlled via remote. Nice and quiet

I also got most of copper run in all 3 shops for air. The fabrication area shows some of lines. Dust collecton pipe hides it in wood shop

Plastik: you've still built one of my favorite garages and i might have to ask you for the plans some day when we move it that's ok.

just curious how you keep snow and water out of the garage/shop if you pull your rigs in with snow and ice on them? did you put in a drain or do tell?

looks like you got a little white stuff. if you want to go in your GJ profile and put in a location it might help you if you have any questions about stuff in the future on this or other threads. also while you are in there maybe click on Avatar and download one of your favorite pictures or your garage and you can change it later so it will show up like my bison made of scraps does under Drivesitfar.

i've had a few avatars and kinda like this one, but if i owned your garage that might be the one i'd use.

cheers and here's to a great 2017!!

Thx guys
Drive, we have a slope to the floor, no other drainage as we would have to deal withDEM if we did
Outside 5ft apron is pitched a bit more
Seems to drains well

Thanks for the inside pic's
Looks like a fun place to play, with everything a guy needs to get it done. I like the dust control set up in the woodshop
is it a 4" or 6" carry pipe?

It worked well enough in the past. I haven't gotten a chance to test its abilities on the saw(biggest dust producer) as I gotta switch out all plugs on the 240v single and 3ph stuff to twist locks.

great shop and huge bonus points for the honda big red! some of my greatest childhood memories are wrecking out on those things at the deer lease :)

LOL! We too had a Honda Big Red growing up. Man that thing was a tank. I'd hate to think of how many miles my brother and I put on that thing. Ours was 1984 model.
