Old and Vintage and long gone but not forgotten by many of the old- timers on the GJ. I would have thought (key word) that this would be an easy story to find all the patent information and find out more about the History of the company that made this tool for the cars back in the day, but alas that was not the case.
looking for all the patents for Sept. the 14th, 1926 took me hours (you would never guess how many patents for just that day alone); Silly me the key word was...Liquid dispensing device. Then just finding the company took me by surprise because I had to look up the records for the town of Litchfield, Ill. and the rest as they say is the story behind the story...
Charles M. Kruger of Overland, Missouri came up with the idea of making a "Liquid dispensing device" in order to pour oil into your car without spilling it all over the place and making a mess. My guess is that either he sold his patent or found a company to make it for him.
Enter the Master Mfg. & Equipment Co., Inc. of Litchfield, Ill. who started making the product in 1926. They were located on the corner of Harrison and Edwards Streets, in Litchfield, Ill. and their slogan was "Serve your oil in glass" ; and this slogan was a familiar with every service station operator. Of course by the late 1930's and prior to the second war canned oil became more popular. I don't know when they stopped making their product but I recall that they were still used in the 1950's. I could not find any more information about the company or even if they are still around today?
