Hello, I am new to the forum and am looking for some advice. I am looking to purchase a vise and want an older quality vise. I have read many of the forums and was pleased to see a wealth of knowledge. I am interested in a vise that I am unable to find much information on. It is a Schlegel EMF 125 with a lift. I am looking at it online and wanted advice on if it is a good quality vise and how much I should pay.
Thanks in advance,
Billy

Are you in North America? Those are common in Europe. Very handy but not super sturdy with the post mount.

I am in Florida, and have been looking around and a guy had two. He wants to sell one and the lift and design interest me. I was unsure if the lift is a good or bad quality. I just hadn't seen any like that.

If you decide not to buy, PM me the fellow's contact info. Thanks.

Its a 5" made in Germany vise, probably like Bison or Leinen, good quality.

The lift can be a hindrance or convenience, depending on what you are doing...and if it is like a Heuer lift, not cheap to buy. Overall, I personally would like the lift...especially because I have 4 vises mounted, to have one with a stand would be an asset for me.

Up to $150 you are doing pretty good, to pay more, it all depends on how much you want it. Up to $250, I think you are still OK, provided the vise has no cracks or welds, and the lift is functioning properly. I would guess that vise and stand would be $400 or more new. Anything less than $100 is a steal.

All this is my opinion, I know some that would never pay more than $75 for a vise, while a few that love this style and would pay easily pay over $200 for just the vise.

I'm pretty frugal on vises, but I would easily pay $150 for that vise. How much is the asking price?

It's interesting, for sure.
The vise looks very sturdy.
I can't envision a single situation in my shop where I'd ever need to raise or lower a vise though.

I really like the vise, but they are asking $250. I am still trying to get it at a better price. I like the lift because it is different, but I am unsure that it really adds more function or value to me.

"Vice" is English

I like the height adjustment. I bought a 6" vise because that was the dimension across the bottom mount lugs of my motorcycle engine so I could lock the cases in the vise and build the top end. That height adjustment would be nice for that and it's also a swivel function once you lift it up an inch or two. However the lip on the bottom of the vise looks like it's intended to **** up to the edge of the bench (for stability) and the pipe going down was not meant to bear the force you apply to the work alone. The "height" adjustment may only be for adjusting for different thicknesses of bench tops. I'd lie to hear what the manufacturer has to say about the design.

Hello, new member first post. I finally got my first Schlegel vise to keep. I say that as the first two I purchased to pass on to a couple of uncles that happen to be Schlegels. I missed a mount that was on a popular auction site for way to long and now am in the process of gathering materials to make as functional and strong base as possible. Really interested in what others have come up with and how they like the designs they came up with. I have several vices around the place and have at least one set up for a 2" receiver. I have several receivers set up around the place from a couple in one of the barns, more on a welding table and of course pickups. I have found that they all have too much slop for my liking and have plans to make special receivers that can eliminate the slop without the use of wedges, that can be adjusted to clamp down or released for easy removal (don't see them as for use on a vehicle for towing though). That is for later and for now the task is to come up with a sturdy base for the Schlegel EMF125 that would really be nice if it swiveled. I have begun gathering materials from my scrap pile and so far it looks promising. Time will tell. Would post pictures but haven't set up any with URLs yet
