Picked up this bench grinder and shelving base, with light, on Craigslist......for $110

I am using it to replace my lame newer Dewalt with the typical 3 point base........which I just sold for $100

I really like having the flexible light, just need to get a metal shroud, so that I am not blinded when using the grinder........something that will block half the bulb and direct the light down

Looks like it came from an instrument company in MO

Maybe sold at auction to a business that buys industrial tools?

That's a nice idea to have it on a shelving stand instead of a pole that you can't store anything on.

That really is a commercial grinder stand. I have the same one for one of my grinders, and it comes with a series of slots to mount most any grinder.

I took it all apart today, and was hoping to just cut out 8" of the dry rotted cord section and re-use the current cord

I probably could have, but the outer rubber of the cord was dry rotted and cracked every other inch

I am also going to replace the switch while I have it all apart, why not for cheap insurance

I also need to replace the cord for the light...........it looks to be from the 1960s and has seen better days

The current grinding wheels were down to nearly 4"..........thankfully, I already have a new 6" stone and new 6" wire wheel

The base was pretty dirty and cleaned up well.........I decided to do some paint touch up on the grinders base and the side wheel guards with some black satin paint

Hopefully by next weekend it will be all back together and running

Surprised to see that the shelved base is not tapered like mine. I've never seen one like that.

It actually is tapered, maybe it was just my phone

The base is wider and while the front of the base/stand is level, to rear is tapered forward

The original cord was 18/3 (9').......can't find one local

I ended up with a 16/3 (9') for $10

I also found a 20A toggle switch for $6

Time to get these installed, shoot some paint, and find the lamp sock/wiring replacement

Splurged for an LED bulb that was $3 on clearance

The socket was like $3 and the replacement cord was $6

I spent $4 on the metal cage with shield, so that I am not blinded when using the grinder and the bulb is also somewhat protected
