Collins Quality Tools

I just came into posession of a 10 inch Band saw that was made by the Collins Quality Tool Co. It is a model BS10/TG13010. The saw had a broken blade in it. I do not have any info on the saw and can not find the manufacturer online. I know there is a bevy on knowledge on this site :bowdown:

and was wondering if anyone could help me out with info. I measured the broken blade but was wondering if anyone had one of these outfits or could lead me in the direction of who bought these guys out so I can see if a manual is still available. Many thanks. Danv :headscrat

No luck, eh? I don't think it is related, but there was a maker of axes and other blade tools named Collins Axe Company. As far as I know, they never made any power tools - certainly not here in Collinsville, but at some point their name might have been used. :dunno:

You did not say if it is a wood saw, or a metal saw. I have never heard of the brand, which means nothing, but without a clue as to wood or metal saw you could get a wrong tip. Example, if that is a wood band saw go and check www.owwm.com they have info such as pics, manuals , for sale etc on just about all stationary machine tools related to wood. Good luck. :thumbup:

Unfortunately, the original company closed in 1966. Now I think a company in Pennsylvania owns the name and most of the tools are imported. From the late 1800s to the '60s though, Collins made great bladed tools that were used all over the world. Most of the US armed forces machetes for WWII were Collins, for example.

The only one I've seen was relatively recent manufacture and definitely barely homeowner grade unit much like the Craftsman of the same size. I'll admit I assumed it was offshore. Was yours USA? Sure it's a 10"? If it is 10", it may be a clone of one of these: 8" Delta 28-180 & 28-185, 10" Pro-Tech, Ohio Forge & other 10" 3 wheel bench top saws which take a 58-1/2" blade. Do you have a photo?

The only listing I found for Collins was in the 9" section, so it may be a clone of these: 9" Ryobi, 9" B&D, 9" Craftsman, 9" Tradesman, 9" Pro-Tech, 9" Collins, B&D 3 Wheel all take 59-1/4" blade. Any saw shop can make whatever tooth count you need. Hope that helps.

The blade is 3/8 x 56 1/8.

I need to find the rubber that goes around the wheels.

Any ideas?

Danv,

You can measure the correct blade length you need very easily. Simply set the band tension wheel about half way though it's travel. Then, wrap a flexible tape measure tightly around both band wheels, as if it were a saw band. Measure the length. You can order cut-to-length bands from Victor Machinery Exchange. www.victornet.com

You can get tires for your saw from Sulphur Grove tool. Measure your band wheel diameter, then the width of the wheel. Finally, measure the tire thickness. Bill at Sulphur Grove can also make custom tires to any diameter or width, .090" or .125" thick. He also stocks standard sizes.

Not sure where exactly where in Taiwan it was made but the model and make was exclusively distributed by Builders Square INC out of San Antonio TX. Mine has a MFG date of 1992 AUG. I too am looking for the "tires" to go around the wheels. It looks like a think big rubber band may work.

I recently purchased one of these band saws used on ebay, Sadly , the packing was inadequate and the saw arrived with the cast foot under the motor snapped,does anyone have an idea as to where or how I might find another?

The Collins Quality Tool 10" band saw is virtually the same as the Craftsman 10" band saw. The only noticable differences are the power switch,stickers and the name.

The tires are available I saw them for $28 or $29 on Amazon I think it was.
