Length of Wrights vs Snap-On combos with photos

Not sure if I've ever seen a comparison photo of the WrightGrip wrenches vs the Snap-On flank drive plus (SOEXM). Hopefully the group finds this helpful.

For me, the Wrights have a better feel to them and are more comfortable, so unless I need the extra length of the Snappy, I prefer my Wrights.

Cool, man. Once I get all the Wright combos I think I might want, I need to find some XLs of some sort. Pretty sure I can't justify the cost of Snappys for a DIY hack.

The shorter length will do me good. Im going to put the Wrights in a tool bag. most tool bags arent real long. I will be able to put a larger size in a shorter bag.

Wright satin finish and overall comfort are hard to beat. Even if they were the same price I would still buy wrights. But they are not so it makes the decision a no brainer.

Snap on makes xl version of those wrenches to. Hopefully wright will do the same.

My Wrights are my 'go to ' wrenches, but I have snappys for the occasional time I need the extra little bit of length

Maybe they delayed the 2.0 to bring them out in a longer length.

Wright is missing a huge market for not making their wrenches longer. I agree they are very comfortable, but I can't stand short wrenches.

In 99.32% of the instances, I doubt the difference is meaningful.

I prefer longer tools, wrenches, ratchets, etc. Generally Longer gives me more leverage.

If you need length you might be better off with an aerospace style wrench. :thumbup:

I'd agree when it matters, and for the times when it doesnt...

you can often save alot more space and weight not lugging around something "almost" as big.

It makes a difference if you get used to a certain pattern of wrench. I've been using Snap-on wrenches since 1992. With any other wrench, I feel cheated.

Just sold my snap ons in lieu of the wrights. I love reading everyone posts that the arbitrary number Snap on came up with for their wrenches just so happens to be the perfect length for that wrench. I'm a koolaid drinking snap On fanboy but I'm not so blind to think everything they make are perfect. The Wrights are 1/4 the price and much better.

Wrenches need to fit your hand, so glad you like the wrights. The fact that it fits you is co-incidence, not design genius.

I don't know that they are much better (I'm willing to concede personal preference) or 1/4 the price, but they are relatively inexpensive for a US manufactured, high quality combo wrench.

A coupled of days ago I priced up the following basic metric set from Toolup (Toolup.com).

This 8-pc "set" is $72.62 plus shipping (about $15). No reason the average joe can't afford a quality set of basic combo wrenches. And unlike my Snappies, I didn't have to buy the 9mm, 11mm, 16mm and 18mm sizes that I never use.

I don't think anybody pays full retail for Snap On combo wrenches. The normal sets are about $200-$250. I bought my inch sizes on eBay. They were black, some rusty, for about $100. I refinished them (easy to do) and now they look like new. I'll post a picture later.

How did you refinish them? I have some wrenchs (not Snap On) I need to do something with.

Maybe not, but it is nice to have a good quality option that you don't have to jump through hoops (tracking down a dealer, hoping there is a promotion and/or buying a lot of tools at once, etc) to get a fair price for them.

I think you'd be hard pressed to buy those SOs for less than $400-500 new.

The wright set up to 3/8 to 3/4 is $120 shipped on Amazon. The 7 piece snap on set for same sizes is easily found under $150. In terms of usability, all of the important differences are really in sizes under 3/4 IMHO.

At Toolup you can get the following 7-pcs for $66.34 plus about $12 shipping. For another $12 or so you can pick up the 1/4" and the 5/16" as well. Definitely cheaper ways to go than Amazon on this one.

You're gonna need 16mm. Do they make it? If so buy it now. It's an ISO std size. We'll see more 16 and 18 on US and European cars in the future

Of course they make it. I've just never used one in my life. My Snappy's have a 16mm if I ever need one. I understand some GM and Dodge are using 18mm's too.
