I've been getting good info off this site for several months while I waited for my 36x64x12 Morton to be manufactured and shipped. I have been waiting many years to construct a shop like this. It arrived 10 days ago and construction started last Wednesday. I had the limestone base pad built a couple months ago as I opted to go with pouring the concrete slab after the building was built. I was a bit nervous when they were drilling the piers last week as the soil profile in my area is lots of limestone and some soil. They only had a problem drilling one of the 4'9" deep holes. They hit a large rock at about the 2 foot depth. They poured the concrete for the piers on Thursday morning and began constructing the frame later that day. They got rained out on Saturday noon otherwise they would have had the building completely constructed. The concrete crew will be arriving on Wednesday to do the prep work and the pour is scheduled for Thursday noon. In addition to concrete on the inside I am going to have them pour a 20'x44' slab out front with a 100'x10' concrete drive from my asphalt driveway to the slab. I am also having them do a 60'x3' sidewalk to my house. The crew will come back the following Monday to install the insulation and then it's time for me to finish the rest.
A little background on why I chose Morton. My father had Morton build a 45x90 back in 1974 on our farm in northern North Dakota for a shop and machinery storage. He was the envy of the neighborhood farmers with a shop that nice. I went back to the farm this summer and the inside of the building still looked new and the paint on the outside was faded but still in good shape for being 43 years old and withstanding many hail storms. I remember that Morton treated him well with their warranty. Ten years after it was built, one of the large sliding doors wouldn't close so a crew came out and built a new one. They also replaced several walk through doors at no cost. With a reputation like that it was hard for me to go with another builder.
I will try to continue taking and posting pictures of my progress. There is lots more work to be done.
