After reading about some of you guys using old wrenches for door and drawer pulls, I went to the local "swap meet" here in town. Just looking for some cheap wrenches to clean up and use. Found a pile in a stall, sorted through them and found 20 that I thought I could use. Guy wanted $20, I offered $10, he countered with $15 and we settled on $12. This is after a 6-hour soak in "Simple Green." I plan on getting them installed over the next few days.

Looks like some cheap wrenches worthy of being used for cabinet pulls. :) Can't wait to see em mounted. Are you thinking of welding a stud on the back of them then tapping that? Or just drilling them and putting screws w/ spacers?

I have some old wrenches that are filthy, Never heard of using simple green.. Makes sense though. Did you use a fairly heavy concentrate or dilute it down? Regardless ill give it a try. Thanks for the idea.

Got the wrenches installed on the cabinets and drawers. Ended up spending more on hardware (bolts/washers/spacers/nuts) then the wrenches cost me. But, I like the look....

Looking good Ray! I dig those on the drawers for sure.. I'd almost like to see something more like a socket or something for cabinet pulls.. but they look good! :)

Looks good. If you have an assistant looking for tools, just tell them it's in the 3/4" wrench drawer....

if tool steel is better than regular steel, isn't it a ***** to drill holes in these wrenches?

"can you give some more insight as to how you made these handles? "

I just used an old C-man bench-top drill press to put a hole at each end. Ran a 8x32 bolt through, put a 1/4-inch nylon spacer, stuck the bolts through holes drilled in the door or drawer and fastened them with a washer and nut.

Yes, it was. Burned up a coupe of my "El-cheapo" bits before I headed out for some good bits. Bought four carbon steel bits, slowed the drill-press WAY down. A squirt of 3-in-1 oil and they cut through just fine.

My door pull. Welded a threaded stud to the back.

no offense Ray-CA, but I think I like wrenchr's better - just looks cleaner without the screw heads

No offense taken. We all have different tastes, likes and dislikes.

Ray

PS: I do too, but I don't know how to weld (yet)!
