Who makes the best manual grease gun? I want a high quality gun. I have heard that these two are good:

Alemite A500
Lincoln 1134

I want a made in USA or Germany/Europe of possible. I want a high quality gun and I don't mind paying for it as it will be a long time purchase.

Please don't tell me about the amazing gun you bought in 1982 that has been so amazing if the same gun is currently made in China while the one you have was made in America. It is only helpful to hear about your amazing gun if I am able to go out and buy that same model.

I bought the OTC above, it wasn't USA made but it's very high quality and I'm very pleased with it.

I have the Lincoln 1134 and it works fine. Use it multiple times a week to keep all the farm machinery and implements greased.

I have used cheap, ok, and good. Ok lasts about as long and leaves room for 2, I like a pistol with hose and a lever with pipe. In practice use 4, a pistol and a lever, red in one set and sticky black **** in another set.

We use several grease guns on the farm. My favorite manual gun is the Alemite 555-E. The 555-E is a pistol grip with a selector switch for high volume or high pressure. This gun is about $50, but I believe the features and quality are worth the price.

For the past 2 or 3 years on our farm, we've been using a pair of John Deere branded grease guns (part # TY26689) with very good results. They have been comfortable to use and can switch between either pumping a high volume of grease or less grease, but higher pressure. The biggest plus has been they do not leak behind the plunger.

We had several Lincolns (India made ones I think, and both types with the stamped steel grips or cast aluminum) and did not have good luck with them. They never really broke, but had a habit of letting grease leak past the plunger if they sat for very long. Plus they did not put out the volume of grease the John Deere guns do and are more fatiguing to use. Since we got the John Deere guns, the Lincolns have been pretty much retired. To be fair though, the Lincolns we bought were maybe 4-5 years at the newest. Maybe the current ones are better quality.

ETA: I wonder if the John Deere guns I have are the same as the Alemite 555-E MO-Iron is talking about. It certainly looks the same outside of the John Deere gun being totally silver. Plus the fitting on the end of the gun is stamped Alemite.

We use Mato ones, made in Germany, I know the Facom one is a rebrand of it and I expect there are plenty of others. Their flex hose is decent and the guns are fine, they are very reasonably priced.

I've used the Alemite and Lincoln both. I've also used a John Deere.

The Alemite switch was kind of nice for fittings that won't take grease very well. But even then I've noticed several fittings that you still had to pump like hell to get it to take. I also wasn't a fan of the hose. It looked just like the hose that is on all the cheap grease guns. Which in my experience can easily blow under high pressure.

The Lincoln's, I use all the time, zero complaints. I have 3 of them. Two for the shop, one with a 3.5' hose. Then one in the service truck. In my opinion they're a little stronger made than the Alemite that I used.

As far as the John Deere goes, I don't recall the part number on it. But I don't like it. The one I used was exactly like the cheap one you get at a farm supply, or auto supply store. The hose was ****, it doesn't pump well, and it leaks more than any of the other grease guns we use. Especially with the one type of JD grease. It also doesn't work well for high pressure.

Alemite 555-E pistol grip. Nothing I grease on the farm can you use a lever style grease gun on. What a PIA.

I have the Lincoln 1134, works fine for me...

I think a lot of people that have "issues" with grease guns is more that they don't get the air out when using a new tube (or don't use a gun for a long time), get frustrated and think it's the gun, throw in trash and buy new one and start again...

Okay, let me tell you about the amazing gun I bought back in 1982...No?

Okay then, I too like the Alemite 555E. I prefer the pistol grip over lever action as it allow you to hold the flex hose on the zerk with one hand while pumping with the other.

Go look on ebay for a mcnaught, they are australian. I have a snap on rebranded one, it's great. Put a tub of grease in, kick the plunger down, set the switch for pressure or volume.

I have one machine that uses more grease than the rest of everything I own put together. I could fix it some but the 50$ in extra grease is worth it. A tube of grease can go a long way in automotive anymore. Most of my stuff that does have fittings is tight enough that a pump or 2 once or 2 x here and there plus a couple extra [umps in some tractor steering on occasion does it.
I can use a lever on a good share of it and its really so minor don't want another layer of battery ****, people have tried to give me barrel air **** and I don't want it. I like 2 flavors. About like small package oil, so easy to get the right one on sale at our small consumption rate and its all clean and easy to handle.

Sae makes grease guns in the USA or at least that is what there site shows.. They look and feel identical to the Lincolns. I ended up going with the Lincoln 1134clr due to price . With zoro coupon code it was $22 cheaper. The Lincoln is made in India the alemite is made in china.

One of my responsibilities is the Lubrication of a large industrial plant. The Alemite guns are built the best by far. They have two lines. The professional line is similar to Lincoln and all the others. These are fine for normal use. The heavy duty line guns are what i req for the plant and they are very nice and durable.

If you want the best cartridge size gun Alemite 1056 is it.

Several years ago I purchased a couple of john Deere grease guns from the local dealership. I don't know who actually makes them, but they've been great. Pistol grip, and a volume/pressure lever.

The very best grease guns are Wanner - made in Switzerland! Surprised nobody else has mentioned them - maybe they are not exported to the U.S.

I have two, both over 50 years old, and both working fine!

Think they still make the same model!

I showed this pic earlier but we really use a heavy duty garbage bag as a liner too. It makes it kind of a 1 stop deal, there should be a roll of paper towels on it. I could do with a 5 gallon bucket version too with a liner.
In a real busy environment might put it on wheels with a "tree" to hang the equipment over the barrel. The height is still so one can see over it and not feel like its so much in the way. If the station was to be along the wall would put a shelf with the can underneath.

I have two also. They're a rare bird in the U.S., so I bought them both off of eBayUK. Just make sure before you bid that the seller will ship to the U.S.

48548,

What is your opinion on the Univer-Co Lock-On coupler.

A picture is worth a thousand words, but they don't tell us how you like it!:lol_hitti
