Cheap oil extractor

I made this from stuff I had around. The heart of it is a 2 way exercise ball pump (which creates vacuum) and the container that I got from work. I had the 1/8 npt ******, tap, & 5/16 clear tubing lying around. It drained the cold oil out of the mower in 2 minutes.:rocker:
I used a hole saw to make the hole for the pump, added layers of duct tape to make a firm connection. I have extra caps so when it comes time to take it somewhere, I won't risk a spill.

How long can it take to flip the mower on it's side, pull the drain plug, and then drain the oil--including the scuzz that's settled on the bottom of the sump--into a drain pan?

No plug to drain it, last time I pulled the engine from the deck looking for it. I did tilt it with 2x4s. Why worry about scuzz in an engine with a splash oiling system?

Most people never even change the oil in their mowers and the engine always outlasts the deck. I wouldn't sweat a little leftover scuzz in the engine. You are already way ahead of the game by changing the oil. Nice job on the extractor by the way.

friend of mine just got a new mower and it didn't have a drain plug. said it's due to some California environmental BS...can't risk joe home-owner splilling oil in the grass from his mower while trying to change it

I just tilt my mower over on the side and let it drain out the fill port. I think the manual even says that's the way you are supposed to do it.
