How can I extend the length of my garage?

I have a big F150 that won't fit into the garage....does anyone have ideas on how to make it fit? It's only short by maybe 6-10 inches, so it might be possible to make a cutout in the drywall to allow for a few more inches. But is it also possible to extend the door tracks out a little as well?

THanks in advance for all the help! I'm about to put an offer on this house and this could be a factor so if it's possible and not too much trouble that would help.

6-10"? Not a whole lot you can adjust.....if you do anything then you might as well do a lot. What is on the backside of the garage?

I feel you man!! Had an 06 F150 supercab, just fit in the garage. I recently purchased an 09 Supercrew, havent tried to get in yet because the garage is a mess but I know she aint fitting.

If your drywall is 6-10 inches thick you should be fine. Sorry man, you are looking at some serious structure re-working. And depending where you are, any tampering with a load bearing wall will need a building permit. Not hard to build a box out wall for someone who has some building experience and as long as it has vinyl or comparable siding on exterior and not brick. If it is brick, then it gets more labour intensive.

My little garage has a 2' extension built on the front with a short roof and the door has been moved into the extension. Here's a pic to give you the idea.

do you have anything on the back side of the garage?
if not you can extend the garage by installing a header and doing a bump out

Now you just need to Chop ,Channel and lower that truck so it will fit under the door

.

The way they did back when cars started to get big in the 50's was to put a header across the wall in front of the car and then build little shed add-on that the hood would fit into.
But you need to be far enough from the lot line to do it.

1) Build a foundation if needed.
2) Pour a slab
3) Build three walls,
4) Add a roof
5) Move the current garage door to it's new location.

That is what I would do.

Here is what I did to extend my garage...quite easy it should work for you nicely, we all are garage guys here so we know what you meant when you wife talked about getting a extra 10" of garage length, we knew you really mean 20' but said 10" in case she came online to check on you.

The idea suggested by someone else a few posts up is what I most likely would do, build a 2ft wall and move my garage door, I think with a proper roof over that it could actually look good, you could push it as a architectural enhancement to make the house look nicer to the wife and if you accidentally add a 0 to that 2ft. and make it 20ft. even better.

Several years ago I wanted to park 2 cars end to end on
one side of the garage. I extended out the back, and one
vehicle was nose first into the ext. Worked great, and let
me keep the other bay open to work in.

You could just add a 2' box on the back wall w/small
slope for a roof. It could actually sit on the curb would
not need to pour cement. That's the cheap way! LOL

SuperCrew owner says - depends on the layout of the house, or go find another house. Mine fits because the house we bought has a slightly larger garage than you usually see. The Crew fits, about 6" off the nose and just enough to clear the door coming down.

A bump out doesn't have to support any of the truck's weight just provide room for the front overhang. The bump out floor can be a little higher than the garage slab. Sometimes a bump out can be built under the roof overhang so no separate roof is required. Here are some ideas.

This is a zombie thread brought back from the dead after nine years, but I've seen a number of garages with bumpouts similar to what Lynden posted. It would be the simplest method in most cases.
